The danger of the hidden moderator

I decided after some thought and speaking to a few people that I would make a post here rather than put it on a board where who knows who might take issue with it.

On 3Moons there is a moderator name that isn't attached to anyone, meaning, there is no one to take responsibility for the actions of that moderator.

I brought up the question, why is it we aren't being told. It wasn't answered on the board but I did receive the following message.

Now, normally I don't post private messages to the board but since this affects the entire community I don't see any issue with, especially when it's basically from anonymous.

Okay so now we find out there is more than one person behind this login. But we aren't allowed to know who because they want to enjoy their time in chat without being bugged. Huh

Yet on a post over on 3Moons Tryp made the comment to Aaragorn that the moderating wasn't personal, going further to say "how could it be?" Well it's simple really, if we have no idea who is doing the moderating then it damn sure could be personal.

People are told to use known names for posting. People are told use only one name for posting, yet there is this contingent of hidden moderators who find themselves above the rules of the board, and they see no problem with that.

Now I was given the classic, hey it's your choice to post here or not. In other words, it's our way or no way, nanee nanee boo boo.

Sorry, that's not only unfair it's downright childish.

I could sit here and rattle off a list of names who I believe are behind the position, but what's the point.

They have a responsibility to the community to make themselves known.

If you don't want to be bothered in chat (silliest bs I've ever heard) then remove yourself from the job.

Anyway, I'm venting but it's my right.

As someone told me just recently, the rule has always been .. if you are going to post something then be responsible for it, i.e. don't hide behind an anonymous name.

So what does everyone think, am I the only one who finds this troubling?
