Essay for Grethos
posted on: 9/10/2006 11:11:55 PM

Tal Goreans this is the Essay that Grethos asked for as my punishment for entering a Tavern in Ar. Grethos has this as well.

Free Women and Taverns my essay.

Tal to Grethos as i sit and write the agreed upon essay by You and Pierre so here goes and all words count towards the limit. I disagree with what has happened to me and here is why.

"Should I wish to enter a paga tavern, for example," I said, "you will accompany me."
"In most paga taverns," he said, "free women are not permitted. In some they are."
"I see," I said. To force an entry to such a place, I then understood, might necessitate an altercation, one perhaps ensuing in the exposure of my identity as the Tatrix. A common free woman, for example, might simply be forbidden to cross certain thresholds.
"Too," he said, "even if commanded, I could not knowingly lead you into danger, for example, into certain sections of the city at night. It is my duty to protect the Tatrix, not to place her in jeopardy."
"You are an excellent guard, Drusus," I said. "You are right, of course."
"I could take you to a tavern in which families are served," he said.
"It was not such a tavern I had in mind," I said.
Kajira of Gor, page 122

If you are a Free Woman, then you are automatically considered safe within the Walls of Ar, but only on such pages that are clearly marked NKZ/NCZ and PKZ/PCZ while alone. If you are on a PKZ/PCZ page and are acting in a slave-like manner, you may be arrested, bound and chained, and brought before the Ubar or the High Council for judgment. No Free Woman in Ar may be face stripped without first being arrested and placed on trial. Ar does require all Free Women to be veiled in public places. Any Free Woman who is found in Ar without a veil is subject to the Veil Law and will be arrested. Ar also follows the Couching Law. “Any free women who couches with another’s slave, or readies herself to couch with another’s slave, becomes herself a slave, and the slave of the slave’s master. It is a clear law." (Norman, Magicians of Gor, Pg. 7)
.
(This being from the Laws of Ar and not something made up by Me)

"In most paga taverns," he said, "Free Women are not permitted. In some they are.'"
Kajira of Gor (pg 122)

"I have never been in one of these places before," she said..."I now understand why it is that Free Women never enter Paga taverns."
Elizabeth Cardwell, Assassin of Gor (pg 22)

"If you may pleasure yourself in taverns," she said, "surely so, too, may I.' "Free Women," I said, "do not come here. It is too close to the wharves. It is dangerous. This is Gor."
Rogue of Gor (pg 158)

This is my essay on why I think you are wrong about Taverns. As you can see, through my quotes John Norman wrote the books with many contradictions to your line of thinking. Now that I have completed my Essay I will send to You Grethos.
