But, one would think that after being shown that it is dishonorable to literally steal anothers work and claim it as their own and get caught at it would stick with someone not to do it again. I guess in Nazareth/Kusi/Cabot's case, this seems to be a hard lesson to learn. On August 29th, Beast caught Nazareth plagarising his page outright to stealing the same exact HTML coding to use for one of his pages. Thread and information found here: http://chatarea.com/3MoonsofGorSoapboxCentral.m3754549 HellzChyld handled the situation in pertaining to the links to his own personal pages, and I thought had shown Nazareth "the light' in regards to being honorable and not using other peoples work as his own. Not long back, I caught Nazareth having stolen the pages and rules pertaining to a site I held in another chat realm in regards to a village called Adelpha. I spoke to him, told him the problem, and he lay the blame on Beast. Amazingly enough, the pages were pulled shortly after. I was viewing the Darkhaven board the other day, and found an interesting thread. Now, I realize that Voodoo is not Halsoft, however, this man roleplays in both chats. That being his right, I have nothing against that. However, I do have a serious issue with him stealing works from Halsoft pages, and him thinking he can take the work, claim COPYRIGHT to it in Voodoo pages, and nothing be said or done, because he thinks we are too stupid to know since the two chats are seperate things! Nazareth portrays a character called Kron in Voodoo. This character runs Tharna there. I was reading the thread (which can be found here: http://chatarea.com/DarkHaven.m3800480) out of simple curiosity. I live in Tharna in Halsoft, and often read any other places which also have Tharna information. I was certainly surprised to see that his Arrest Rules were those that were directly copied from my Tharna pages. I also noticed that he had stolen specific rules Beast Blade had for Laura in Halsoft out of his rules concerning Slaves. Luther wrote the role play rules which my city and Helmutsport use. I have used them for years, and have always given credit where it was due. Nazareth even quotes some of John Norman's quotes as part of his laws. This is all well and good, as people often share information and quotes. It was fine UNTIL I looked at his page and lo and behold, Nazareth claimed COPYRIGHT to all of this work. He was kind enough to look into the situation before I made this post. I also sought out Nazareth, and met with a "What?" and then nothing when I brought the attention to this matter asking when the problem would be rectified either by deletion of the material or proper credit given to the authors. HellzChyld said he was given the same treatment by Nazareth, and thus this post has been made. What goes on in Voodoo may not affect Halsoft, of that I agree. However, when the person steals and plagarises, that has nothing to do with what goes on in chats. It simply is that, thievery. I made this post to make people aware of the "honor" this man has. I also am publicly stating the person that portrays the character of Nazareth is hereby shunned and ignored for any actions or deeds by myself and those associated with Tharna and Helmutsport. Whatever future characters played by this man are also ignored. He is welcome nowhere around me, even if the situation is rectified. He knew better, as he has been caught doing it before. |

replied on: 10/3/2006 9:47:54 PM ugh. Really, how hard is it to extend some simple friggin' courtesy here!? ASK. It won't kill ya, might even get you a nice 'thank you' in return. You'll never know until you try it. I have never supported stealing others' intellectual property, especially given how fiercely possessive I am of my own. I absolutely support Emmaline's stand to shun and ignore this person, along with any who condone this behaviour. |

Reading his laws from combat down is word for word what I have written, and I did seek permission to develope what I put together from those I needed to way back when. The big difference is I modified the way I wrote things. Nazareth you do not exsist to me as a Gorean any longer. I don't care what name you create. Your a coward and lazy man when you can't take the time to do your own home work and create your own ideals for your city. ~Walks away totally disgusted~ |

Though we in Voodoo, meaning the majority, have basically already completely banned him, from our boards, from roleplay, and basically he lives in his own little world. Thank you for bringing this issue to light and to our attention because being a student right now in a Composition class, even we are taught to cite the original author or in other words, give credit where credit is due and not take credit for what is not ours. ~*~*edited for errors*~*~ |

replied on: 10/4/2006 8:43:38 AM Greetings to those of Halsoft. I recently posted some gorean information to our educational section of our boards as well. These were word documents that had been passed on to me over the years in my time of being a kajira. Unfortunely, i was never given the authorship of the pages. I posted them, not only because the information contained inside was invaluable to roleplay, but because the informtaion was well written, and served to help our community perform better in our own roleplay. Last night, I recieved a email from the author of the said material asking that it be removed. I did however, ask Luther, to allow me to give him his due credit on the material and allow it to stand, as the information was wonderful.... again ... I thank you very much Luther, and hope you allow this information to stand once you let me know which, of course, is yours. Never once, did i take actual credit for the information posted...nor would i... i write enough training material on my own that i can claim credit for. To willingly claim the credit of others is simply wrong. We in Voodoo, have trouble unfortuently with this Man called Kron ourselves. It seems not matter what chat he decides to play in, he causes drama and discord. I wish all well in Halsoft. and again.. thank you Luther for letting me know who finally wrote this Material. |

A few that attended resolved that they would and should be ignored. I, being one that agreed with the suggestion, am joining the others in ignoring you. You are not welcome in my home on Tyros, nor are you welcome to contact anyone within my immediate home. I am not going to give you any long-winded post about why plagiarism is right or wrong, both ethically and legally, because I do not think your integrity nor is your intelligence high enough to understand. replied on: 10/5/2006 10:36:00 AM I do not know the person(s) involved here, but the subject matter is of enough global interest to have me weighs in on this very thorny subject. Firstly I echo Drakani's sentiment: Ask for permission. The sad part about all this that with the millions of notions, ideas and suggestions for roleplay the books allow, originality of your own version of what Gor should be is probably the easieset part what you attempt to do here. Any one of us can read a chapter from any book and "have at it" as to interpretation. If nothing, Norman is more than generous as to ambiguity. Secondly, There is no need to steal another's idea, unless, as may well have been the case here, the person(s) mentioned is/are just plum lazy. Many of us have used (as Jalen used for her example) Luther's scrolls as source material for our ideas, and some of us have even dug deeper and actually read a book or two, just to confirm,,(heaven forbid otherwise)~smirks~ that Luther may not be correct. So then, what is wrong with adding the after thought: Based on information found in Luther Scroll Number so and so." And I agree with those who suggest ignoring someone who flagrantly plagerizes to be a sound idea: After all, do not those who do steal ideas forfeit any sense of credibility? Motezz was assasinated, and duke is a runaway. Nazareth claims to be black caste even though the black caste on palace gor never permitted him to join so he must be rogue. it's disgusting that there are idiots out there that claim to have knowledge of web and graphic design and still continue to steal other people's hard work. i've had work stolen before, not just graphics but webpages too - some know i used to run a pretty large gor info site, some idiot copied the entire website changing copyrights and title graphic and basically passing it off as her own. my site was pulled and wow - all his graphics on his reproduction of my site vanished. even hotlinked the pics from my old site lol. like mentioned on Dark Havens boards, theres many scripts out there that stop right click etc, but best ive seen so far is those where you can script them in dhtml and java to stop the pages from even caching... meaning you dont download the pics or rather, you do in a way, but they arent viewable or usable except for when viewing at that site. the script i have encorperates another nifty lil script too - it stops the saving of the pages, copy and pasting via highlight (no highlight permitted), as well as no "view source" so basically all that can be done is screen capture. if anyone wants it, email me i will dig it out and reply with a txt file of the script that goes into the header of each of your pages with respect vyxen vyxen@digidezigns.net |

replied on: 10/7/2006 11:03:20 PM Tal Goreans, I too am a resident of voodoo and not halsoft but I believe I may have a solution to at least a mojority of the problems with ppl stealing the works of others. Now while My idea isnt quite broad enough to address ALL of the problems brought to light on this thread, it would cover the problem of rules and law pages being stolen outright. I propose a "Registry of Law" be established much like and even tied directly to the voodoo "Land Registry", whereas each gorean HS, Keep, Stronghold.. etc., register the Laws of their homes as well as the tags on their pages. These being stored on a central server would also prevent them from being changed at a moments notice to suit the needs of individuals.
