| Bliss | All things in Moderation posted on: 10/8/2006 11:53:39 PM I have been thinking about this for a long time ..well a good few hours , I was layin in bed eye open watching my 2 pet spiders playing around on the bedroom ceiling and just thinking. I visit a lot of forums , not just gorean ones infact , most of them arnt gorean. And I have a problem , my problem is moderators deleting posts . I have always found this totally unnessary in all aspects of moderatoring a forum or a board, not only that I fnd it deeply insulting to the poster and the people to read the board. Moderation a board is a job that is bistowed on you by the board admin , and in most cases I have seen it done correctly , in some cases I have seen poeple go nutso and delte everything they dont like ,, why?? Normally cus its a power trip for them . Im all for editing a post and removing improper material such as avs that are showing to much or negitive messages to another person , but delting a post isnt nessary .Most forums have a trash bin ..call it what you will where the "flame" post can be removed to if its deemed unfit for the puplic eye , but to completey delte a post because somone doesnt like it , I feel is totally wrong. If I have taken time to sit down and write a post , who has the right to take my words and trash them ,, i mean really ,, wouldnt you be a bit miffed?? would you go back to taht said forum again and again to see it done to your posts again?? I think not. Moderating a forum or a part of a forum weither its gorean in nature or klingon is not an excuse to become a board nazi , and to pick on people. After all there is only one baord nazi and and as far as I am aware She never deltes post. If you want your fourm or board to flourish heed what I say , if you dont ,, dont . shrugs. ~this post has been posted on 5 forums so if it offends you maybe you need to look at your own style in moderating ~ |

replied on: 10/9/2006 1:09:57 PM A Moderator/Administrator's job is thankless at best. Most times one cannot please all, and that is the simplest of truths. Many people believe it is without fail, freedom of speech on them, no matter what they decide to post. In most cases, that simply isn't true. Our rights *in the US* are Freedom of Speech, but there are also laws that prevent slander, etc. In this virtual world, however, most can post and be as "bad ass" as they wish to appear to be without impunity. The only option given to the community is simply ignore those people that post as such. No board will ever have rules which can encompass every situation. Many fall between the grey areas many times, and Moderators have to make decisions based on what they feel is best for the Forum. I know on Words of Gor, I do not like negativity in any form. That is my choice, and that is the way I run it. For myself, I feel we have enough negativity that drags the community down as it is. I don't need someone constantly degrading another to build themselves up. I debated on posting the plagarism Nazareth did on my Forum and others, and then weighed it that it was more informative than insulting. I did lose my temper though on the thread here, and that just makes me human. Moderators are certainly going to make mistakes. The best one can do is read the rules, follow them, or if they find they can't, simply don't post or participate there. Go and make your own board (you being aimed at none in specific). I know I pay for my Forum out of my own pocket. I choose to do this because it gives me a greater amount of control on how it is run. I am happy with the niche of it I have made, and those that don't post there, well that is their right and choice. Each person will always do what is best for themselves. Sometimes a thread can be salvaged with just editing, if it makes sense without the edited parts. Sometimes the entire thread is insulting enough that it should be removed (dependent upon the rules of the forum). I know on WoG we don't have a "dumpster", but I know several boards that do. Tryp does her best to manage the one here. I often read the ones put there, and fight with myself not to answer, because I see some of the same people over and over insulting others not in their "group of popularity". Many times they are pointing fingers and mistakes at others, while I know I could write up a funny snap come back which could degrade the poster with the same animosity and acidic toned they posted with. But really, their not worth my time. I reap enough negativity in life and am here for fun. As I said before above, if a person has to be so sadistic and insulting to downgrade another to build their own immature selves up, well have at it. They only make themselves look bad. As to people finding your post insulting, I don't see anything of a nature of such in it. I simply see your opinion on how things are run, and at least put forth in an adult nature. It is more than many can do here. I wish you well. Emmaline |

replied on: 10/9/2006 1:31:27 PM In the event of a rude or insulting av, deleting a post is the only answer. Moderators cannot change a poster's chosen av. Now I'm by far no prude but I don't care to have another woman's hoohaa stuck up in my face when trying to read a post which is why I had hoped, and was quite thankful to see the av and post in question were indeed completely removed. The thing to remember about freedoms is that first of all they vary from country to country, hell they vary from state to state but most important of all is that a person's freedom only extends to where the next person's begins .. in other words .. the right for me to swing my fist ends where your nose begins.
