| x_Lisa_x | Settling or Forgetting? posted on: 10/25/2006 12:34:22 PM I'm so glad that the rules were adjusted so that I don't have to use my "Fancy talk" for this post! And at the risk of a very stern lecture (one can hope for the best) I have to say, I HATE closed posts! So, since I have something to say and the post it applies to is CLOSED, I'm opening up a new post. Don't argue with me, I'm Lisa but I still have Fancy's skillet nearby!!!! Okay, in seriousness, I wanted to respond to Jehan's post about how we want Gor to be represented. I'm quoting his last post as a reference point for my post: quote: IF a woman was running around Gor dressed as Kayra was, then no one should blink an eye when her av became accessorized with a fancy new collar. But, "IF" is the operative word here. Kayra says she was in her chambers. Kayra lives on the mainland. Jehan is a sailor on the island of Tyros. There's no way, in a roleplay fashion, that he would know what she had on inside her chambers. She may have been roleplaying that she was seducing the milkman or maybe she was roleplaying that her home was being raided and she had just been striped of her clothes and some of her veils. Hell, she could have been removing her clothes to take a bath!!! (Maybe this is why Tryp never bathes... hmmmm) Now, as a member of the online Gorean society, I think it is right to correct someone (be they new or crusty) when they err. Yup, if Kayra was running around Gor or even her city, Jehan is spot on in correcting her behaviour. FW did not run around in public scantily clad. Period. Okay, exception, Ludmila's brothel... there were women who were scantily clad going into public bars, they usually came out accessorized though......... But the NORMAL FW was robed and veiled. And yes, we all need to remember this and remind others that robes and veils are expected for FW. Don't wanna comply? Then go be an outcast from society, run to the forests. Panthers are the women who left Gorean society because Gor would not conform to them. FW conformed to society, or they became enslaved or they ran away. Now, I know Jehan has been in and out of Gor for several years. I think perhaps he initially came here just before I did. So, maybe when I say this, I will be chalked up as a Gorean newby, or someone who wants Gor my way, but... Gorean Free Women did wear sheer intimacy veils in their bedrooms and even in their homes with family members. And a Gorean woman would have rather revealed her body than her face. (Supported by quotes from the book, if you want to see them look them up yourself!) FW did have to change clothes, they did take baths, they did sleep in less restrictive clothing than robes... and to think that a FW is acting like a slave and deserves to be threatened with slavery for wearing less clothes and a sheer veil in her bedroom is absolutely, outlandishly preposterous! It's INCORRECT! it's WRONG! The thing is though, I don't know if Kayra was in her chambers and wrongfully attacked her or not. She claims on the boards that she was. However, Jehan has not answered that comment. Maybe, Jehan was doing a locate, got excited about that cleavage and snapped his little picture and posted in an adrenalin rush. Maybe, just maybe, he forgot to look and see where she was. And maybe Kayra is lying about where she was. So, was Kayra in her chambers as she claimed? Or was she on a caravan going through the market? It is our responsibility to portray Gor as Gor was written. It should be our responsibility (for those of us who have read the books) to educate and mentor those who are newer or who have not read the books. But more importantly, it is our responsibility to educate correctly. Jannat's post was sorely lacking in correct information. If Kayra was in her chambers, threatening her with slavery for being undressed was wayyyyyyy out of line. And again, while I am just a mere woman -coughs- and I have only been here for 5 1/2 years now... there are older, crustier Goreans who aren't settling when incorrect information is bandied about so carelessly. DW's Post I wish you all well. Lisa |

replied on: 10/25/2006 3:51:36 PM These are some good points..aye. And DW's post also points out the obvious. However, since we ARE in an online chat that affords a locate tool for whatever reason most want to use it, it is not wise, in role, to be conscious of where you are? I am always aware of WHERE I am, which is why I disguise even when "visiting" Tyros, a place I could not get to. This is that lil bit of respect thing I spoke of in another post regarding veiling in places that don't veil. If a FW is in chambers and not chatting freely, which uh..she wouldnt be in chambers right? Why not be in chambers in PR? IM's still work there and you can see nothing. Some of these things are nitpicky, but peeve a number of Goreans. I see simple and easy fixes for em. Get buck arsed nekid in PR..no one has a problem. Locate is a feature that I use to find other Goreans, or to find friends who have all the xx--..Xll stuff in front of their names and, gawd knows, I'd never remember all that. I also get to see new names. I'm nosey, and I'm curious. Sue me. Anyways, I think it's a simple fix. Go PR, dress, undress, overdress, put on the gownless evening strap and go for it. Now, I must hunt and get the dirt on Trashie Trixie whom I've told Luna has stolen all her toe sucking slaves and turned them against her. *as an after thought, grabs a skillet I see there and runs off* |

replied on: 10/26/2006 11:18:15 AM stay on topic..or I shall have you severely punished. Yea, I did that on purpose. snorts I'm just saying if you are in PR no one can see wot yer wearing..right? And that being conscious of where you are when yer doing wot yer doing is also a good thing. Yer never gonna stop the use of the locate tool in Hal so be aware that people DO use it and conduct yerself accordingly. It would be the same thing if you were actually on Gor. You would not be wandering the hallways and sitting rooms dressed like that. No telling what male eyes would see that even inadvertantly in passing or through a window. On Gor you would go behind closed doors and curtained windows (pr). If people use the locate tool and see a PG sitting in a sitting room in Tyros, it makes me look bad and it makes them look bad. If they see a PG disguised as a FW they can only conjecture as to why I am there. Voile! Is why I disguise. I KNOW people look. Hence..conduct yourself accordingly. |

Settling or Forgetting?
replied on: 10/26/2006 12:23:30 PM quote: I was not going to address this because I did not feel the need at first, and the thread closed because it was no longer a viable debate, only rounds with a woman who says very little of significance in the endeavor of what is proper or improper for a free woman. It takes more then a woman’s cleavage to give me adrenalin rush and that display gave me more of an irritation rush. So I neither posted in haste nor did I forget to look where she was, in fact, I have some witnesses to this fact. Truth is, I agree 100% with many points of your post and had this woman been in her private chambers I would have defended her if anyone else had posted or commented, because I am aware that her chambers are private, I do not care if they go butt naked there. However, she was not in the privacy of her chambers, she was sitting with three other people chatting, one of them a man, and on a page, that was not a woman’s chamber, how do I know, I looked. Now I realize that if a Gorean man allows such things, he allows it, but it does not make his allowances accurate or acceptable. I have been here several years, sometimes more then I care to admit and in the beginning, I also made the mistakes of believing that all free women are slaves in robes and deserve nothing more then a collar, but knowledge, reading, and maturity have altered my position. I firmly believe that Gor is a man’s world and as the controller of laws and standards, he rules his world. And I do realize that my rule goes no further then the walls of my home on Gor, but we are not on Gor, we are in a chat in which I can hope I am with fellow and similar thinking Gorean’s. I suppose what aggravated me the most was that free women of HalGor have endeavored, sometimes fruitlessly, over the years to gain respect from their fellow Gorean’s. To make a place in HalGor and not be dismissed as merely slaves in robes. Then out steps Kayra mocking the entire effort and the fiber of what I see to be Gorean and the Gorean free woman, which is why I posted my opinion and it is only that my opinion and asked the question of how you wanted Gor represented. You yourself stepped forward and called her a HUSSY, why? Perhaps you too tire of the wrongful conduct and the bad rumours that follow HalGor free woman. Perhaps you too are weary of ignorance and compromising that has made a mess out of online Gor. I only need to read the satire of the “Gossip Vines from the Forest” or posts from many that have been here for a longtime to know how some feel about matters in this Gor. Everything I post is just my view and you can take it or leave it, I will not apologize for my actions, nor withdraw them, I stand far too firmly on my convictions for that. That does not mean to say I am beyond learning or changing my views. But I take comfort in the fact that that woman will never be outside her private chambers dressed like that again and maybe, just maybe others will take heed in how they represent Gor as well. |
