| Lady Ashlie | What's the rush? posted on: 11/5/2006 3:37:57 AM *Borrows Jehans soapbox* You know in real time we all seem to rush alot..rush to work, rush to fix dinner, rush the kids here and there, etc. So I have to stop and ask myself why? Why do so many seem to wish to rush Gor. We have all basically agreed on the 30 day rule, but there is no rush if after your 30 days you have not picked a Caste or a home. If you were buying a new home would you rush, no I don't think so, then why do so many seem to wish to rush things here. Why is it so hard to wait till you find your *nich* or place that you feel the most comfortable and welcome? I am not saying that people will not make you feel welcome but some places just feel more like *home*. Take the time to get to know the Caste you decide on, learn all that you can about it. Use your 30 days to build up and write up your character history. This time gives women a chance to see which role suits them the best as well. You may start out as a FW and decide a slave suits you better or a slave and find yourself more suited to being a FW. If you decide to FC, after your courting time is up, what is the rush of setting a date and hurrying to FC? There is no divorce on Gor, once you sign the contract, all bets are off so to speak there is *techinally* only one way out of it. You are going to be with the person you choose for a year, take time to get to know them. Make sure before hand that you both are compatiable, what is the rush if it is what you both truly wish neither one of you are going anywhere and you still are spending time together getting to know each other even better. Most people in real time are not going to meet someone and marry them 30 to 60 days afterwards, so why do it here? If you are a slave why rush into a collar that you want out of within a week, or why would a Free wish to hurriedly collar a slave that may either just vanish or make you as unhappy as they end up becoming from things being rushed. If your just looking to fur her then hell have some fun but don't just slap a collar on her. If you are a returning Gorean, why not post your journey through Gor, planning your trip as you visit one home or another, think of the adventure you could and would have traveling by a ship or Tarn or how you wished, send a messenger ahead to let them know you was arriving and if you would be welcome. It could make for some fun and enjoyable role play as well. I am not pointing fingers here mere stating some thoughts, or food for thought. We rush enough in todays society, Gor is not something that needs to be or should be rushed. Years ago when I first came to Gor, there was no 30 day rule, but people took the time to learn, did some rush, of course that is to be expected but I think the majority took their time and found their place, which is something no one can tell you but that you have to find within yourself. There are many things to learn, not just where you wish to live or become a citizen and your Caste but much more. Myself I would like to learn about the city I was in, the people, what kind of animals are in that area or region. The best way to get there weather it be by Tarn, or ship, ect. Some people role play more than others, so if you enjoy role play would make sense to find a place that did as well, or vise versa. Mainly all I am saying is take your time, yes I know that has been said many times over, but not just when arriving and entering but after your 30 days, take time to discover not only those around you but yourself as well. I wish you well Lady Ashlie *puts Jehans soapbox back where I borrowed it from.* |

What's the rush?
replied on: 11/5/2006 7:51:45 AM Nicely said Ashley. Often wondered myself why everyone is in such a rush to lay claim to land, take slaves, or FC when they dont have a real clue what's going on. Some take longer than others to get to know Gor and/or the people around them. Soft Paths, |

What's the rush?
replied on: 11/6/2006 2:23:56 AM like 'ah said before, we ARE rushing to buy a house! -smirks- I'm copying my response from the scribes' board. ********** Kidding aside, I enjoy seeing this post. It is similar to my own thoughts. I have views similar to ones expressed by DreamWeaver on this board before. (Not the same, but similar) What I think is that 30 days is a guideline, because I can't very well expect to enforce a month long observation on someone in Torvaldsland or some other far flung location (and let's face it, Tyros is about as far flung as I can get! lol) All I can do is ignore them until they have been around for at least those 30 days, refuse to rp with them, acknowledge them in any way, unless to tell them that they must wait for my acknowledgement of them as viable characters. If you'll forgive me, I'll even use you as an example. When you came to Tyros, you did not rush to FC, nor to gain Citizen status. Indeed I believe it was a few weeks later when we were even able to get all together for an 'in-chat' event, and do it up proper. I think that time has only benefited you. Certainly it has benefited the rest of us of Tyros. =) |

What's the rush?
replied on: 11/6/2006 3:52:48 PM Well said, Ashlie, And as a Frequent Visitor to Your fair Home, I must agree with Drak..(wait, did I say that?) It IS a good Home, the Men are strong, the Wimmin are good looking, (To borrow a line from PraerieHome Companion).. and The conversation is stimulating. So You and Jehan are obviously doing something right. But I echo your sentiment: GOR Will be here tomorrow and even the next day. Ohh, and as to 30 days? (My RT wiffy and I waited 30 days.. or so) ~chuckles~ Be well Lafon |
