Ok I know I am just a finicky feline but I saw something the other night that troubled me. It was a total lack of reguard for one's responsiblity to those they collar. I met a submissive new to gor. She had just recently been collared by a Freewoman. The submissive wished to learn gor and was very attached to the Freewoman. Also obviously respected the Freewoman. Well the Freewoman, she submitted to a male friend without leaving any instuctions(will) of what is to happen to her property, be it lands or slaves in the event of her death or collaring(each a possiblity in gor for a FW).

Needless to say the submissive(new gorean) was blindsided when she had to find out from someone else and very hurt from the former Freewoman's lack of foresight or respect of others to even send a small im, message from a mutual friend, email or anything. Now another new gorean is leaving with a sick taste in their mouth from the utter lack of accountablity, respect or even common sense that you do not exist in a bubble all alone. Yes gor is a harsh place but we live on earth and if we keep eating our young alive, our numbers will continue to drop and we all suffer for it.

So this is my tips to those new to gor and wanting to learn.

1: Take your time, make the most of your "observe" status. Decide what role suits you best. Just because you're submissive in life doesn't automaticly slam you in to a collar in gor. Also if you decide to explore as a free person but have a deep abiding desire to learn or be in a collar-don't collar slaves who will be abandoned/tossed about helter skelter when you give in to that urge.

2: get to know people, learn who is who. Find out who is respected, who studies the books, which are role players, real lifers, and who has honor and does honor to their role.

3: if you are a submissive, do not dive in to the first "perfect" collar that is dangled before you-i/e if it seems too good to be true; its probably not true.

4: If you find a slave that is so eager to be owned by you and is experienced gorean; wait take your time to get to know them. If they are your perfect match today they will still be your perfect match 2 weeks, even 2 months from now don't rush in to anything.

5: Once you decide your role, learn it. Read the books, find good mentors but most of all use common sense-there are real live people here with real lives and real emotions. This is not a video game. You are accountable and have a responsiblity to those around you reguardless of the role you choose.

An' while I ken feel fer the girl, the Gorean mindset wasn't exactly set to think 'bout wot would 'appen to the slaves upon the Free's death or capture.

Yeah, I ken argue that the owner were right inconsiderate an' the new girl probably was 'ad 'er feelin's trampled a bit. An' this thread an' the one by Ashlee (sp?) 'ave some sound advice 'bout not rushin' into things.

The truth o' the matter, an' the best reason not to rush into things is simply that Gorean slaves ain't yer favorite cushy, cuddly stuffed snuggle bunny.

Yup some Free came to care deeply fer their slaves, but I'ma not so sure that they may 'ave gone 'bout setting up the "An' iff'n I git captured clause... dimples goes to blah, blah, blah..."

Now, from a roleplayer standpoint, it'd be mighty decent o' a person who is thinkin' 'bout submittin' to plan fer the care o' their property afore they did the deed.

So, said submitted former free woman gits a Fancy SCHMACK upside 'er 'ead fer bein' inconsiderate.

An' said slave who 'as now left Gor gits the Gor is harsh spiel along with a speed defying ride back to earth.

An' those o' us who 'ave seen it all afore ken jest nod an' say, "yup, best not to rush."
