| Ratchet_Megrum | slaves servin' posted on: 12/16/2006 2:52:50 PM Havin' nothin' better to do an' wantin' to relax a bit, I read the whole slave smacks Free and dies post - an' o' course, I got me an opinion on the subject. But that ain't why I'ma writin'. Somethin' struck me when readin' it, an' that were when the fella involved asked the slave how come she dinna serve him. Now I ain't too sure o' where this all took place, since one slave was runnin' on the docks an' the other was headin' off to a kitchen, but let's jest say fer now that a situation similar to this takes place in a 'ome. So a feller comes to yer 'ome, an' you ain't there. Yer slave is though, an' she greets the feller an' more than likely is the one who let him in since it's just assumed people can jest walk into each other's houses instead of typin' somethin' like..."stands outside the door a knockin' waitin' for a response" - well, that is jest unheard of. But I digress... So the slave lets the feller into the house an' he's demandin' to know why she ain't servin' him. Hmmm.... Let's jest think about that. Ya waltz into a feller's home and automatically assume ya should be fed? Um, why? That an' the fact that this home is gonna have the exact ingredients yer ordering? I'd like a bosk steak with the blood still runnin', palm wine, black bread, cosian fish, etc, etc, etc. Wot, are they runnin' a friggin' restaurant out o' their house now? Well, iff'n ya plan on doin' that when steppin' a toe in m' house, ya best be leavin' a big tip for m' Fancy to be collectin' after she serves ya all that! An' more'n likely, ya will be gettin' wot we feel like givin' ya, iff'n anythin' at'all! I wish ya wote'er, Ratchet |

replied on: 12/16/2006 3:35:02 PM Sorry, but that should be a courtesy of the person you are visiting, assuming said free person is even in residence at the time of the social call. It is understandable, if a person visits a home of a slave, for that slave to offer something such as a glass of water, in an effort to be pleasing to someone who came obviously expecting to see someone in that home. This is not something that should be expected though. It is a courtesy. However, to feed them? That's going a bit far, and it would be safe to assume (at least in my home) that a slave would be beaten for having the temerity to dole out MY food as if she were the one who owned it and had such a right. Well stated, Ratchet. |

replied on: 12/16/2006 4:48:27 PM I dunno about the protocol for slaves entertaining a visitor when their owners arent about. I would assume that would be up to the owner. However, when is it ever okay for a slave to slap a free? |

replied on: 12/16/2006 6:06:37 PM ~looks around for the gorean popcorn mumbles about once again missing all the good stuff~ I would not go around running though your cubbards, why would I send your slave to do such for me? Priest Kings forbid what she might drag out of a low caste cubbard. ~shudders at the thought~ (LOL winks at a Lady from Ar) ~Looks outraged~ an animal dared to touch a Free??? ~shakes my head~ |

replied on: 12/17/2006 5:25:07 AM Excellent post with excellent points, many of which are my pet peeves for a long time, realism in role-play. Even whan offering water one has to be careful, in the Tahari to offer a drink of water makes an uninvited guest, welcomed, that's not a privilege I wish to extend to just anyone. I also believe in staying true to your region as well, offering only what would be realistically available in my kasbah. Arjumand has been instructed to inform our guest that the particular item requested is not available and she is to ask if they care to make another selection. Thanks for the good post. |
