replied on: 12/26/2006 12:12:17 PM LMAO and this was done by river boats of the Vosk on Thassa?? Not likely for one the River boats wont take the pounding and high seas of Thassa I can just see a bardge takeing on a serpant ship that moves 5 times faster and is way more monuverable Though we could have faced each other on the Vosk since our ships can be marched over land bypass the delta with a 3 foot draft would make it no problem to navigate in the Vosk the men would have a problem with perhaps Thalarions in the water but to drown I doubt it since most that went to sea were accomplished swimmers and a pasang swim to land wouldnt be too hard especally when the water isnt that deep and can be walked to be able to fire 100 balisti that are on turrets you would need at least a 1000 foot ship with a crew of over 600 4 man crews for the balisti and rowers this ship wuld have a draft of over 17 feet at best A knorr ship is a ship of trade not a warship it carried no shields cuz its a transport probly a farmer and his family seeking trade along the vosk |

replied on: 12/27/2006 12:31:58 AM Pictographs were much more numerous now, and, instead of being linearly bordered the walls were now decorated in columns of runes and designs, and pictographs. Torches, unlit, in wall rings, were still illuminated as we passed near them. Many of the columns carved, with painted surfaces, on the walls, reminded me of rune stones. These stones, incidentally, are normally quite colorful, and can often be seen at great distances. Each year their paint is freshened, commonly on the vigil of the vernal equinox, which, in the north, as commonly in the south marks the new year. Religious rune stones are repainted by rune-priests on the vigil of the fest-season of Odin, which on Gor, takes place in the fall. If the stones were not tended either by farmers on whose lands they lie, or by villagers in whose locales they lie, or by rune-priests, in a few years, the paint would be gone, leaving only the plain stone. The most famous rune stone in the north is that on Einar’s Skerry, which marks the northland’s southern border. "Can you not read these runes?" I asked Ivar, again "I am not a rune-priest," he said. Ivar’s reply was not a little belligerent. I knew him able to read some rune markings. I gathered that these, perhaps because of antiquity or dialect, were beyond him. Ivar’s attitude toward reading was not unlike that of many of the north. He had been taught some rune signs as a boy, that he could understand important stones, for in these stones were the names of mighty men and songs of their deeds, but it had not been expected of him that he would be in any sense a fluent reader. Ivar, like many of those in the north, was a passable reader, but took care to conceal this fact. He belonged to the class of men who could hire their reading done for them, much as he could buy thralls to do his farming. It was not regarded as dignified for a warrior to be too expert with letters, such being a task beneath warriors. To have a scribe’s skills would tend to embarrass a man of arms, and tend to lower his prestige among his peers. Many of the north, then, were rather proud of their illiteracy, or seml-illiteracy. It was expected ofthem. It honored them. His tools were not the pen and parchment, but the sword, the bow, the ax and spear. Besides simple runes, the boy in the north is also taught tallying, counting, addition and subtraction, for such may be of use in trading or on the farm. He is also taught weighing. Much of his education, of course, consists in being taken into a house, and taught arms, hunting and the sea. He profits, too, from the sagas, which the skalds sing, |

replied on: 12/27/2006 10:01:39 AM Today we have a quite clear impression of what a viking ship really is: Here are some actual facts based on such a serpant ship' or man-of-war class. This is im a outline of what a MEDIUM CLASS class serpant ship looks like, that is in a museum: The Gokstad boat was of the 'long-/'serpant ship' or man-of-war class, and since speed was required of her she had less freeboard. She had a large square sail, but she did not depend only on the wind and could be propelled also by 16 pairs of oars worked through circular oar-ports;the boat must have had a crew of perhaps 40 men,but it could carry 60 or 70 persons in all. The overall length is nearly 80 feet and the displacement about 30 tons; It had a mast capable of being raised and lowered. She had a tall, good-looking prow and stern, rising boldly up from the water and alike fore and aft, and her rudder was fixed over the starboard quarter. There are 3 class of them small/medium/and large. Now which one did you say you and your men carried to the river again? Now NightShade just how much grog have you been drinking to even think you and well quite frankly any of your men could just pick it up and carry it from your place high in the north and merely carry it to the vosk river. The distance alone would be well, just overwhelming. Talk about a reality check.Hello are you daft or what. Now to also state your men may.(MAY)? have a problem with perhaps Thalarions in the water...Well hello does the term feeding freezny have any meaning to you. Now to further answer your comments as to the river ships and barges,These are two different types of vessels. The river ships are like that of war ships at sea, just not as large. But they are very capable of using and carrying the balisti on their turrents. As for the barges, thats just what they are flat barges for carrying supplys and men up and down the river. As for your men drowning, they didnt drown at all.I guess you overlooked this part of my post.It clearly states that: I watched as my acrhers did their jobs very professionally. Not a one of the vikings lived,as we all watched them disapear beneath the rivers waves. Meaning that your men were shot and killed by my archers professionally. Not a one survied the onslaught of their arrows in the water. More of your ships will be sunk if you do not remove your 600 ships from southeren waters on the vosk. Opps....598 as two are at the bottom of the river now. replied on: 12/30/2006 3:35:33 AM These finds reveal that Viking shipwrights, in quest of the ultimate raiding machine, created the most extreme of all traditional ship designs. The length-to-breadth ratio, greater than 6:1 and a rapierlike 11.4:1 in the Hedeby longship, combined with the shallow draft to allow longships to land on any beach and penetrate virtually any waterway in Europe. With speed as a goal, whether under oars or sail, expert shipwrights achieved strength through resilience and lightness. http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~jasen01/texts/longship.htm The sagas provide little information about the ships the Vikings used to cross the Atlantic or to sail east. These ships were known at the time to be silent, swift, and light enough to be pulled ashore and carried over land. They also could maneuver in large rivers due to the shallow draft of their construction. Large Viking fleets were recorded in England in 835 A.D. With Viking crews rowing hard, Swedish ships could maneuver through rivers and emerge into the open waters of the Black Sea or the Caspian. http://www.mariner.org/educationalad/ageofex/viking_ships.php Longships were large and long ships with a slender hull, with 20 pairs of oars or more. Their had a high length:width ratio, which gave the hull minimal resistance in water, resulting in high cruising speed. These ships were capable of carrying a large number of warriors but relatively little cargo. The largest of the known longships were probably more than 50 m long, carrying 200 - 300 warriors. The longships were specialized warships. http://home.online.no/~joeolavl/viking/vikingshipclasses.htm The vikings had several classes of trading ships, designed for crossing open sea carrying a lot of cargo. These ships were the true "work horses" in the viking age. They can be subdivided into several classes: A karv was substantially smaller than the real longships. Usually they were equipped with 13 to 16 pairs of oars. They can have been very versatile and can have been in use both as merchant vessels and at war. Both the Gokstad ship and the Oseberg ship are examples of well preserved ships of this viking ship class. The viking ships were fast and did not need any harbours as they could land on beaches and enter shallow river mouths where enemy ships could not follow. http://home.online.no/~joeolavl/viking/preface.htm The ship of Earl Filippus - 1206 AD This was a longship built in Tønsberg, Norway i 1206. It had very high gunwhale and 36 "rooms". This is even more than "Ormen Lange", suggesting a total length of perhaps 50 m. Its width is said to have been 25 "alen", equal to ca 15 m. It had two rows of oars with 48 oars in the upper row and 24 oars in the lower row. Each oar was operated by several men and was as long as 20 "alen". This gives a total number of 72 pairs of oars. With two men on each oar, it then had a crew of at least 144 oarsmen. With four men on each oar this doubles up to 288 men. Either way this ship was very large. It must have been very heavy with a rugged hull and probably with a jointed keel. It must also have been very expensive to keep in operation because of its large crew. well damnn!!! In the days of Olaf Tryggvason of Norway, drakkar calls Osmsinnlangi or Ormen Lange got to measure of 40 to 100 mts of length and some by más13 mts of sleeve. About 5 stem and sternpost were raised to mts of the water. Some tenian a capacity stops up to 700 men and tenian 120 rowers, who were alternated themselves during the day with other components of the crew, according to Danish sources The longship was very sturdy, and yet flexible enough to withstand the waves of stormy seas and light enough to be dragged overland between two lakes or rivers. http://www.cdli.ca/CITE/v_drakkar.htm now I know the Dorna had catipults on turrents but that wasnt a river ship now I know there are 40 Torvaldsland ships in Turmus dont know where ya got 600 from thou Turmus has its own navy but if there were 600 ships it wouldnt be too bright to attack them especally when alied with Turmus and Jasmine in so saying As High Jarl of Torvaldsland I proclaim a werguild placed upon Eteocles of 10 gold tarns per man killed 15 for the navigator and 25 for the Captain this was a dishonorable act on a unarmed fishing vessel (thats why there were no white shields or any other shield it wasnt a warship) |

replied on: 12/30/2006 4:27:56 AM Wow .. attacking an unmarked ship?? does that mean the merchants or Fisherman Died for an unjust call ??? Most know that unmarked ships on the vosk are fishing vessels , or merchant ships .. but im bewildered how this attack became away to provoke a war ?? Or am i missing something .... Remember attacking a ship that is unprovoked, in are charter makes you responsiable. the rest of the towns that are in the Vosk league will not help you E. Article Eight: Declaration of War 1) In the event of an unprovoked attack declaring war on the Vosk River league all cities and towns are to assist. 2) Any League member wishing to declare war, must bring it to the council and show just cause. Articale Nine: DEFENSE All Members agree to the mutual defense treaty implied by this document. An attack on one city will be interpreted as an attack on the League, and the League will take full retaliatory measures against the attackers. Defense procedures will be established to quickly relay Military Conditions along the Vosk. All Members agree to the mutual nonaggression pact implied by this document. No city shall take hostile action against another and shall never seek to harm a member city's citizens, trade or independence. The Vosk League does not stand for, or endorse, aggression by any member city against any city outside the League. As such, members cities are not bound to assist in the aggression of one city against any city outside the League. Defense It is assumed that all members have ongoing, NPC if necessary, patrols that will see any aggression that passes its way, either by land or river. SO, an attack on any city flanked by member cities could hardly be "by surprise." Any member city attacking another can expect to get quickly overrun by League Forces from all flanks, and control of that city will be assumed by the Council. In the event of an attack by an outside city; would warrant justification in the form of R/P logs, of the group leaving their city or lair and traveling to the besieged city. No group will be recognized unless this type of justification can be provided, without the logs the Vosk League will not be viable and thus null and void. |

replied on: 12/30/2006 11:21:46 AM Yes indeed you are missing a lot here. But that is too be expected from one who has no courage to show their real name when posting like you have here. First off ,it was not a fishing ship. Second off there is 600 viking ships on the river. Now stop and let that sink into that brain of yours. They are not fishing ships like you want everyone to believe. They are raiding ships, try and do wake up and smell the tarn dung you are to shovel down everyones throats. Now do try and keep up, as for your justification 600 ships that according to NightShade was carried into from the north and down into the river....Well i have to say seems to me your in leauge with the devil himself.Trying to justify his actions against the books.Makes you both look lame to me. As for the VRL Charter it never got off the ground. Members pulled out their support and it was never carried over with full votes by its founding members. As for the rest of the towns that are in the Vosk league who will not support me,I say this to you...NAME who they are. You cant as there are none.It was never fully voted on by ALL its founding members. We are not gonna just sit by and let this go with 600 viking ships on the river. Now that said,be man enough or woman enough and post with your real name here...player. So this being said i repeat,NightShade remove your 600 ships from the vosk river. It is the Only way to restore peace. ~Enuff said~ Signed, Eteocles Administrator Fina Port/CoC |

replied on: 12/30/2006 3:41:21 PM This was seen and taken from your own Northeren Empires Board before it was closed to public viewing.Maybe this will help you see where. ~shrugs~ 600 ships depart Torvaldsland for southern waters of the vosk river, that one day will be used in combat. The ships filled with Jarls the finest warriors the captain can muster sails by with shields adorning the sides 140 Large Drakkar warships with 200 men on them 160 medium Longships with 70-80 men some 200 small fast serpant ships with 40 men. Night Shade High Jarl of Torvaldsland xNightShade High Jarl of Empire This is what was read and taken from your own board NightShade. Now that your Board is closed to public viewing.I shall state for the record here and now that any more roleplay that you or your men post to it will not be valid. I will deny it as valid,as it is something I could respond to. Now I wont speak for everyone along the vosk river, but to me sure doesnt look or even come close to sounding like fishing ships to me,combat ships for raiding yes, fishing ships no. So again I ask you to remove the 600 ships from the vosk river,That is unless you do not want peace. Signed, Eteocles Administrator Fina Port/CoC Adds this foot note: I will no longer answer to any questions concerning this Roleplay on 3 moons. So anyone wishing to read any moves about Fina Port Navey, will have to read the Fina Ports Board. My Board is not closed like the Northeren Empires is now to the public. Seems they are afraid to let anyone see their moves or any of their posts on their roleplay board. A cowardly act if you ask me,not at all very honorable. |
