Cross Chats, my view
replied on: 8/3/2005 12:45:23 AM I have given this much thought. Now I will make my stance known. I have seen the discussions over and over about cross chat venue role play, and I will state, that I cannot allow such to happen in Ar. This is not to say that one chat venue is better then another. This is not to say that Msn Gor, or Voodoo Gor, or Halsoft Gor is any better then the thousands of other Gorean chats that are out there. However, I have to look at this from the Gorean mindset, not just a role player’s mindset, but also a Gorean mind frame. I have stood with many of you, I stood with CoM, and I left CoM because of this ideal. A Gorean gives his allegiance to his homestone. Most Goreans dedicate all they are to their caste within a certain city. I have given all I can to not just Ar in Halsoft, but to Gor in Halsoft as well. I have to view this as the one Gor that exists as Jubei. I am Ubar to Ar in Halsoft; I cannot willingly allow myself to be distracted by forming any other alliances outside of my chat venue. On Gor, there was one Ar, one Port Kar, and one Vosk River. How can I dedicate myself to my people and to those Goreans within Ar properly, if I cannot even discern which Ar I have more of an allegiance too? How can I say that my honor and commitment to my caste brothers within Ar will hold its strength, if I do not hold strong in my convictions to my homestone? I have been known to visit other chats, and speak to Goreans there, but I owe no allegiances to those chats, and I give my heart to Ar in Halsoft Gor. It is my city, my home, and my Gorean pride. Visiting other chats, I encourage, but I cannot and will not dedicate myself to another chat venue. The prize is already here before me, I am standing on Gor and the winds still carry the sounds of the shrieking Tarns. It is true, that it can be said, those tarns scream just as loudly in Ar in voodoo, and I would agree. Nevertheless, it is not the sound of my city. It is not the Gor I have poured out my life’s blood for. It is a replica, just as my city would be a replica to those committed to the cities and homes that they have built within the other venues. You are free to do as you wish. I do not condemn those of you who successfully traverse the planes of existence between one chat and the next. Unfortunately, if you ar using the same name in both, you may visit Ar in Halsoft and we may laugh, joke, and discuss Gorean ideals and ways, but you will not be considered apart of the Gor in which I belong too. I cannot control you, you have the right to do as you wish, but I do control that within the reach of my sword, and will continue to do so with every Gorean breath. It took me quite sometime to come to this realization, that if I wish to portray a strong Gorean, then I must start at the basic fundamentals of that which makes a Gorean, just that, Gorean. Some castes may have no allegiances to a city and so forth, but the fundamentals still exist. To be able to role-play between chats, you must change your rules and ideals accordingly to each chat venue. This does not allow for consistency, regardless of how many that say they are going by the books. If a man’s name is killed in one chat, he can simply allow his name to exist in another chat, and we would be none the wiser, but is there honor in that? There are a variety of things that we could all work through I suppose to make it viable and work. However, the biggest thing we cannot change, is that they are still separate Gor’s, separate cities, and require separate commitments, that defeat what I consider to be one of Gor’s many attributes, loyalty to one’s caste and home. If you choose to do this in separate names, then that is your choice. I suppose that I would not know and it really should not matter. Though you will not find me doing so for everything and every reason I have already given, I cannot stop you, and you have the right to role-play in such a manner as you wish. But I can say that without a doubt, that if you have a single name and are trying to cross chats and cross worlds, I will not allow it in Ar. Keep it separate and I do not want to know about it. You are above all things a Free Person. I wish you all well, Jubei, Ubar of Ar |
