I love my books and sometimes I think that it would make sense for my character to know that, but in fact she doesn't. Books are fiction, strictly that. Legend. Myth. I'm saying this now so we don't have long posts dictating why this character knows something she/he doesn't need to know and won't know. I'm also saying this to keep Lobian's anger to a low roar. His Ravenloft game starts in a time of noone's knowing. For what we know, Sithicus has ALWAYS been there. We don't much outside our towns, so keep it that way. Any Elder that would have known the story of Soth, or any truth to it, has long since been dead. So Soth is meerly Legend and Myth. We know he exists, or used to exist, or is just a story to keep children in line when they misbehaved. |

replied on: 5/28/2003 7:30:36 PM This is a "custom" game. The only "official" history is what I say. I do not read the novels, nor do I care for them. Anything and everything from them is either a lie, or a myth. Probably both. Do not bring that kind of information into my game, since you will only be hurting yourself with falsehoods. By the way, NOTHING can leave Ravenloft. Azalin tried. Vecna tried. They did not succeed. This does not mean you "know" about it, but, do not tell me my own game history, please. I'll let you know what you need to know when you should know it. |

With nothing else to go on, I always automatically use what I know about history, or rather, what my character knows about history. Now that you have made this determination, I can go with it. BTW: Soth didn't try. The mists removed him and put him back on Ansalon. In the books, that is. |

replied on: 5/31/2003 12:15:16 AM All I was basically saying is that since you hadn't mentioned that we were using your own version of Ravenloft history instead of the official book history, thus we had no idea as to what your version was, we had to go with what we had. Besides, I don't think I 'metagamed' at all. Irregardless, yes we can get back to the story now. Better that this got discussed now before it became a problem. |

Ravenloft is NOT the Forgotten Realms, where everything in print is truth and "happens." Anyway, I won't argue it, since it is pointless. We've moved on, and that's the only important thing.
