My Game!
replied on: 5/25/2003 10:57:59 AM To figure your attack roll, you get a thing called "Base Attack Bonus." You modify that with your appropriate attribute (Strength for melee, Dexterity for ranged) to give you your total modifier to attack. A rogue begins the game with a +0 BAB. All warrior types (Barbarian, Fighter, Ranger, and Paladin) gain +1 BAB/Level. The feats are not split into "classes" because anyone who meets the prerequisites can take ANY feat. Fighters have a special list that they get EXTRA feats from, but they still have access to ALL the others. It is very hard for some character types to get certain feats, because it goes against the "concept" of the class. Example, a fighter would have to take a level of a spellcasting class to get Scribe Scroll, but, you could still get the feat, if you were willing to make that sacrifice. EVERY character gains an additional feat every 3rd level. So, at 3rd level, you get another feat, then at 6th, and 9th, and so on. You must have ALL the prerequisites to take a feat, which means if you have to have 3 different ones, you're waiting for a while. The hardest feats to get (like Whirlwind Attack) are easiest to get by being a Fighter because that class gives the most feats (and if you look, you'll see every feat listed for Whirlwind Attack is on the Fighter Bonus Feat list...) Some classes, like Ranger, gives "virtual" feats at 1st level. Some classes give bonus feats when you've reached a certain level in the class. All this is covered in the character creation chapter. Maybe you downloaded a poor SRD version, but it's actually easier to follow than the PHB is... |
