Pardalis heard the voice before he ever saw the woman, and as his head turned, golden eyes were blinded by the fire of her hair. Blinking, his vertical pupils adjusted for that moment it took to bring her fully into focus.

He remained by the fire, holding the nearly-full mug of cider that Shadow had given him. And he appeared amused at Nacleyen's impatience.
