replied on: 11/18/2005 11:10:03 PM Too bad you're not going in May, the Tribeca Film Festival's supposed to be pretty cool! Have you seen this film location site? New York and LA. Getting around for six weeks, it kinda depends on where you want to go besides NYC and LA. Any thoughts? |

replied on: 11/18/2005 11:21:50 PM I love seeing things from films/TV shows! While in Philadelphia I had to run up the steps, myself. You won't have any trouble finding the museum there. There's a lot to see in New York. I don't know think Central Perk is an actual cafe, but you can see the building shown for exterior shots of Monica's apartment building (the show was actually shot in LA). Do you like Seinfeld? If so, you can visit the "real" soup nazi and have a meal at the corner diner (Tom's Restaurant on Broadway). There are some Tour companies, but I can't personally vouch for them because I haven't been on any! The real Kramer even has his own tour. I've had some success seeing Conan O'Brien by waiting in line early in the morning for stand-by tickets. I say some success because on my second try we were 3 people from getting in after spending an hour in the morning and two hours in the afternoon in line. You just never know! I had always heard that getting tickets to Letterman was difficult, but my friend and I were walking by his theater and people outside with clipboards were handing out tickets to that day's taping if you could answer a trivia question. I didn't get to go because I had a wedding rehearsal dinner, but my friend went and got to see Hugh Grant. Your best bet would be to request tickets early (do some on-line searches) if you know the dates you'll be in the city. This site might help you. If you're interested in theater, it sometimes pay to wait by the stagedoor after a performance. I've been able to meet a couple famous performers by doing that. Be sure to have a sharpie and something for them to sign (like a Playbill). I haven't been to LA in a very long time, but maybe some other people on the site can offer some advice. Hope that helps. |

replied on: 11/18/2005 11:27:33 PM I also like to reccommend Big Apple Greeters to folks. I had a great guide who walked us all around lower Manhattan in the pouring rain! You might be able to request a guide who knows about locations. |

replied on: 11/18/2005 11:36:55 PM gday again and thanks for the fast replys so far of course am a huge fan of sienfeld fan and i realise they only use exterior shots for the sitcom shows but i still wanna see them lol. how can i get sitcom tickets the best way i;ve looked online but it seems really hard to get them we are willing to go anywhere just as long as we see film sites. we will prob go to boston, washington D.C Philledelphia, New jersy(quick stp store is a must see jay and silent bob) san fran, san diago, LA New York chicargo maybe miami we are fully flexible i just want a week in new york i know there are tours but coz we r on a budget (we are only 19 yrs old) we just want to see them ourselves and prob only spend money when we hav to for tickets to sport broadway shows etc. A film festival would be awsome to go to so if there are any on that would be cool. basically we are into popular culture so we would like to see novelty hings like the video store quinten tarrentino worked in and clint eastwoods restraunt etc. keep the replys coming thanks |

replied on: 11/19/2005 1:16:10 AM Take advantage of http://www.imdb.com, search for a movie, left hand side "location" sometimes lists specific location where it was filmed. Also books like Movie Lover guide to New Yorkc |

replied on: 11/19/2005 8:11:15 AM Getting around the east coast is easy by train. Crossing the country, less so. So you might plan on flying between the east coast and Chicago, then over to California. Renting a car in California would be an easy and fun way to go from San Diego up to San Francisco. Beautiful drives! Seinfeld locations are easy to find. I stumbled onto the coffee shop while visiting the Cathedral of St John the Divine (high and low culture in the same 10 minutes - score!). Check out this Virtual Tourist page. |

replied on: 11/19/2005 11:35:28 AM Hiya I'm from the UK and in the process of arranging my backpacking trip through the States in 5 weeks time. I decided to fly part of the way too. In doing that I have came across a site which helped me find the cheapest flights going. I spent hours looking at each airline webpage and various other travel agents and none seemed to come up as cheap as the results I got from this page, as it searches every airline and comes back with hundreds of results on a single search. It is also very user friendly. Check it out!!!! I hope it helps. http://www.kayak.com John |

replied on: 11/21/2005 7:35:51 PM If you're going to L.A. and want to do sight-seeing related to films, definitely check out the studios. They take you around the lot, you see the exterior of a lot of the sets (I saw the Central Perk) and some studios even allow you to catch a bit of filming. Word on the street is that Warner Brothers is the best. I saw Universal with my family like five years ago and it was alright. Hollywood is on the red line metro and you can catch a ton of stuff in that area. The only studio left down there is Paramount, though. The cool thing about Hollywood is that you can get free screenings for movies and you'll write up a little survey for them (ooh, and they show inside Mann's Chinese Theatre) but keep in mind that you have to show up early because they give away more passes than they have seats available. Everytime I'm in Chinatown I see "Rush Hour filmed here" signs and they seem to film a movie/tv show outside my office all the time (but I don't think downtown is some place that's great for sightseeing...mostly just office buildings). |

replied on: 11/21/2005 11:56:07 PM If you'll be coming through Chicago, you MUST watch "The Blues Brothers" if you haven't (horror!) watched it already. It's the quintessential Chicago movie, and many locations are downtown. Many teen movies from the 80s were set in Chicago or Northern suburbs, as well; Ferris Beuller's Day Off, 16 Candles, etc. |
