I've never been to Munich before. I'm sure my friend will show me some sights but can you offer some suggestions? 1)Where would you stay? Which hostel is the best, in terms of location and price? 2)What museum is the can't miss museum? 3)Where must I absolutely have a beer, no matter how touristy it is? That should get us started...come on people, help me out, don't make me go to TOS!!! El V |

replied on: 1/29/2003 12:12:31 PM Hey there, here are my suggestions. 1) Stay at the 4you Munchen hostel, exactly 200 steps from the train station and a pleasant walk through the main street from the old town. They are good priced and here is their website, http://www.the4you.de/ 2) The Hofbrauhaus is a nice 'museum' of ancient German culture, this is the place to go for a good time, large beers, and pretzels. 3) See above. Have a good time. |

replied on: 1/29/2003 2:54:46 PM The Hofbrau Haus really is aimed at the tourists now, BUT it really is fun--especially watching how folks from all over the world react--and act. You must go back in warmer weather--the outdoor beer gardens are a great experience. Didn't have a bad beer in our two weeks in Bavaria--some we liked better than others, but all were good. |

Re: Re: One day in Munich
replied on: 2/3/2003 3:23:56 PM right now, here are the things I have planned for the 2.5 days I'll be there: 1)Peterskirche 2)Altepinkothek 3)Hofbrauhaus 4)sitting in on a TEFL class and being interviewed by the students 5)Weisses Brauhaus (morning weisswurst) 6)Castle Nymphenburg and perhaps a nice little walking tour, and the Fraukirche... does that sound like a good beginning representation? |

replied on: 2/4/2003 11:00:26 AM Don't stay at 4You. Euro Youth Hotel is better and just as close to the train station, though in the other direction. |

replied on: 2/5/2003 2:58:26 AM well, i ended stayin at haus international in schwabing district, am there now and it was fine. got my own room with shower, and free breakfast for 24.50euro. easy bus for 10 minutes to beginning of munich hoopla as it were. only made it to hofbrauhaus last night because my train was late but it's not as touristy in a negative as people make it out to be. it is a necessary stop i think because of all the different kinds of people in there, the band...it was cool for sure. met a nice kiwi couple who took me into their lives for a few hours. anyway, just checking in. tschuess |

replied on: 2/6/2003 11:58:33 AM If the weather is at all mild, go to the Englischer Garten and have a beer at the Chinesen Turm(chinese Pagoda). It's open year round. Otherwise, try the Augustiner Keller(a few blocks west of the Marienplatz). Actually, go there no matter what, great beer! The HB is touristy, but fun. Check out this site: www.beerdrinkersguide. Have fun! |
