Animals

Not a complete surprise when you look at the demographics of the city, but this is still shocking.

That's crazy.
We've lost it I guess. Course I wonder how many people out there stop to help in these kind of incidents and get sued afterwards by the person they helped?
It's no excuse, it's just sad.

****that. You do what's right when you can. Only animals act the way those "people" did. At least call 911 for gods sake.

Hartford, Connecticut:

The racial makeup of the city is 27.72% White, 38.05% Black or African American, 0.54% Native American, 1.62% Asian, 0.11% Pacific Islander, 26.51% from other races, and 5.44% from two or more races. 40.52% of the population were Hispanic or Latino, chiefly of Puerto Rican origin. 17.83% of the population classified itself as non-Hispanic White.

Real fucking surprise.

He was VERY lucky that police cruiser rolled up within 60 seconds after the accident. Apparently they were responding to a different call at the time. Saved the guys life as the bystanders sure weren't doing anything.

Things like this (and living thru the LA Rodney King riots) and New Orleans post-Katrina puts a harsh light onto how "civilized" our society really is. We're a hair's width from complete anarchy.

You want to know why I'm an armed citizen? Because when the lid on society pops off (and it will from time to time), you have no one but yourself to rely on. It truly is "every man for themselves" out there.

But that's the blunt reality in most of the world. I've seen dead kids in the streets of Africa. Blood and brains splattered in the mud. And people just milling around the bodies while 40 yards away others were attacking and likely killing the driver that hit the kids. We didn't stick around to see how it ended, but I saw machetes and heard the screams.

Americans like to fool themselves that we're "above" all that. Incidents like this news story and the ones I mentioned should dispel that illusion.

Yeah. That's the problem with most Americans. They think America is above it all. How the ****can you just stand there and do nothing??? It's beyond me.

I wasn't using getting sued as an excuse at all, I was only using it to expand on the fact of our decline.

I agree with you, even animals will come to the aid of another that is hurt.

This is an example of worthless people.

What did you expect them to do,there were 4 911 calls immediately after the accident acknowledged by the police. Unless they were a doctor only thing some one could have done if jack him up more. You pissed off cuz they didn't go out and hold his hand?

Well they didnt have to hold his hand, but hell they all stood on the side of the road, just looking and wondering.. 'wow i wonder if he is hurt.' They didnt even bother to go out, check on him, look at him at all, hell, he could have got hit by another car because no one was out there! I really hope you arent trying to defend those people furley, that was horrible to watch.

First of all, when this initially happened, the news reported that there were no 911 calls made --in regard to the hit and run--and that the police cruiser that showed up was responding to a different incident.

The 4, 911 calls that you are referencing was reported only recently, days after the accident and my post. Which means that our initial reaction was dead on...and more than acceptable--which is in line with the Hartford Chief of police. But even after saying that, this is not how people should act. How many people are on that camera? 4 calls out of all those witnesses? And what about the cars and scooter that gawk and then just leave? I didn't see one person step in front of the man and stop oncoming traffic to prevent him from being runover again. I'm sorry, but I did not see any sense of urgency in any of the people on that video. Maybe I'm different. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I was raised to open doors, pullout chairs, respect my elders, say please and thank you, and help the less fortunate if I can. I help old people cross the street. I carry their bags...and if I were there I would have been kneeling right next to that man while I called for help and stopped traffic. Why? Because it's the right thing to do.......and it might lead to some kind of reward or face time on TV

Guy, you are right on in what you said and what you would do....i am in that same boat. It irked me to no end watching that video. I hope they catch the two racers that veered across the double yellow and hit the old man and crucify them. The bystanders? *shakes head* dunno what anyone can do for them...a waste of space.

The only thing i'll give you is that maybe someone could have stepped out to make sure traffic is stopped, but I think a body in the road does the same thing.

Have you ever hurt yourself bad? I haven't, but as bad as I have been hurt, I didn't want anyone to come near me other than medical staff.

It's easy to jump onto some righteous band wagon, that dude got help faster than most i've seen. If it was me on the ground I would have been happy with what happened.

The animals here are the dudes that hit him and took off, no one else, but it seems everyone forgot about them so they can point fingers at bystanders who did exactly what should be done in an accident.

I tried to help someone in an accident once and almost killed him by trying to help. The best help you can give them is a 911 call and don't ever touch them.

I'm not gonna move the dude, I know you can make things worse, but I'm gonna be by his side and call for help. The video doesn't show ANY bystanders reaching for their phone. I don't see one person run off to signal a store, person or anyone to get help. Hell the people that see it happen continue to walk, they don't even jog towards him.

When one of my best friends lost control of his car and ran straight into a pedestrian's legs--pinning him between the bumpers of two cars--I immediately unbuckled my belt, checked to see if everyone in our car was ok, jumped out and told the man to hang on because I was on the way to get help. And he was in bad shape too. I saw the bones coming out of his legs. I ran my ass off to the fire station, around the corner, and got help to him within 2 minutes. I'm sorry dude. I don't see how anyone can defend those people. That's just bullshit. There is a right way and wrong way to do things. Those people did things the wrong way.

If an African American was run down in front of you, Sajer, would you call emergency services? kneel beside him and make sure he knows he's going to live? or just put your foot on his throat and break his neck?

Of course he's in front of me! I'm the one behind the wheel!!! Why would I call 911 on myself? That's just dumb.

Furley, you may be reacting out of fear that there might be repurcussions if you help. BUT, out of ALL those people in the video (including the cars), how many do you think would feel the same way you do? ABSOLUTELY NOT 100%. Come on, be for real. The closest help in that video was one person pointing her finger in the direction of where the cars went, disregarding helping the guy instead.

Yes, the true animals that should be given the death-sentence is the hit&run driver. But, should we go after the hit&run driver while completely ignoring the guy that is critically hurt?

GUY,
Just a couple of months ago, I was driving down Austin Street and on Ascan I saw a woman on the intersection just laying there with a couple of bystanders around her not knowing what to do except divert traffic. I immediately stopped, got out, and ran to her. She was hit, but the driver was right there and he already called 911. I reached back to my first-aid/cpr training from years ago and helped. I checked her out making sure she was okay, if anything was broken, etc... and she was okay except for a sprain. I gave the EMT the run down of her condition then walked away happy knowing I did the best I can.

THE MAIN THING IS: regardless of first-aid training or not, I know I did the best I can.
