Is it me.. or is it more like the one stop ethnic minority drop in centre? I am not a racist bloke (how can you be in this unofficial city of culture). But lets be serious here, the only thing you can smell while browsing the shelves of inshops is either B.O or coco butter, Its a bit daunting being the minority for a change... where do all the white folk in brum shop?

Everywhere in birmingham is like that, don'tcha think? I think the Palisades is particularly too. I always feel I must stick out like a cat on a cloud.

Fine. Freedom of speech and all that. I'll defend your right to voice your opinions however vile. But at least apologise for your spelling! There is no excuse for that. It's slipping standards (including in spelling) that leave our young people, black, white or brown, with low self esteem and no prospects, hurtling into a life of crime!

I quite agree with racheymaus, it is people that start sentences with "And" that are responsible for the crime in this city.
No need to appologise for your Nazi attitudes, having to live with so much hatred in you is punishment enough.
As for free speech.......fück you.

Having said all that, the sentiment about one stop being a soul destroying, depressing, demoralising and debilitating location is so true. Had one of the nastiest cups of tea I've ever tasted in there, made by a perfectly pleasant white lady. Which all goes to prove this topic should have been posted under "I disagree, Birmingham is shit", in which case go and live in Vienna.

Is there still a cafe in the "In Shops" owned by the bloke who's two apparent claims to fame were having met Lesley Grantham and a big snake?

Thank you Xerxes, I didn't think anything could make that cup of tea less pleasant, and then you introduced the sneering face of Dirty Den. It wasn't sterilised milk swirling in that mug, it was snakes' eggs!

Two weeks ago i was in GUM the huge shopping mall off Red Square. Ten years ago it was full of plastic soap dishes no one wanted, now it is full of Armarni clothing no one can afford. One stop is not that bad.

My word...I don't know how I missed this topic. I was put off by the subject title. I didn't realise you were all having a punch up in this topic room. One Stop...never mind our cousins from overseas, it's the flamin' students I have a problem with at One Stop. Why don't they just be honest about it and change the name to "UCE overflow car park". You try getting a disabled parking place after 8.30 in the morning! I'm sure half the shopmobility scooters are taken out by ruddy lecturers. They're all zipping around the UCE campus to their seminars on em.

Aaah-hah!

So 21st century students are in college before 8-30 then! Proof at last that the young are not all wasters and scoundrels.

AND there are a ridiculously small number of car parking spaces on UCE campus: complain to Mr Knight. Expansion expansion expansion, without a thought for the consequences.

I had the misery/privilege of attending said university. I did it all on the number 33 (when it turned up, etc etc), and let me tell you, the walk under those underpases from one stop to Baker building was terrifying. You'd have to be lunaticic to risk it. All those old dears feigning fainting fits, then whisking away your grant cheque while you coo over them. Driving into your delicate shins with their "scooters". Falling off walls, for the attention no doubt!

And the rules in one stop car park were really stringent. You were better off parking up by the greyhounds, nobody showed their faces there til way past last lecture time.

Yes...well you're welcome to it Rachey love. There's no decent shops there anyway. The best thing that ever happened at One Stop was when those muggers jumped in the canal to get away from the police. You couldn't get near the fence for a look because of all the scooters crashing into each other, us oldies do like to see a young toe-rag get his collar felt, especially a wet cold one. Personally I think the Chief Inspector ought to project more mug shots of wanted crims up on the side of Lloyd House, that seems to sort em out. What do they actually teach at the UCE anyway Rachey?

Law, architecture, nursing, cars and books. To my knowledge.

I think the police should put up photos of ugly people so drunkards on the prowl don't get fooled in the dark. Apparently there're a lot of folk who've survived a beating from the ugly stick in Brum, so this would be a good use of taxpayers' money.
