How considerate we are. An obvious question, but for whatever reason, would anyone want to leave the relative security of their home (all that is familiar and known) for alienation, marginalisation and abuse. It would take a lot to push me from my way of life (involves a lot of chocolate) to subjecting myself to begging from an alien state. Grrhhhmmmm! |

Our Asian Brummie friends should be thanked for contributing many important things to Brummie culture. Like getting Chicken Tikka Masalla on the menu at the Social Services Day Centre. And giving us the word "innit". For selling cheap curtain material. For driving our buses and running those very specialist little departments in our hospitals, like Medical Supplies. For playing cards in the park on a summers day and entertaining us with their music from taxis on Bearwood High Street. Thank you. |

But on a serious note, as far as I am concerned I love living in a 'diverse' community. Ok I don't think we should let our political correctness get in the way of being honest with each other, i.e. I think radical Muslims in Britain have to meet us half way, but then we have to also stop generalising and fearing about them. What did that Asian car showroom owner from Tipton say in that documentary the other night (did anyone see it, it was brill) "you can't clap with one hand". We can only do it together. Hey, not bad going for a dotty old fruitcake. |
