The same goes for Scotland and Ireland too. Did you know that Scots was known as Inglis until about 1500, when writers began to call it Scottis?

If so, historical records show that other Scottish clans were responsible for far greater atrocities than the English. This fact is, of course, conveniently overlooked by Scottish nationalists. I just disagree with borders and boundaries and consider the desperate 'clutching-at-straws' which is Scottish and Welsh nationalism to be both retrogressive and inane. Agreed, I've met some lovely people from that part of the world. The ones I can't stand, however, are those (Welsh, Scottish, Irish and English) who look back through rose-tinted spectacles in the hope of identifying and reclaiming some illusory sense of national identity, ignoring completely the present multi-cultural reality of modern Britain. I say get a life, get a grip, stop wearing stupid skirts, stop trying to resurrect dead languages, and let's try to solve problems that really do have a bearing on the present.

Sir Thomas Holte was one of the providers of the finance for this, which is why if you go to Aston Hall the red hand of Ulster can be seen, Sir Thomas having this added to his coat of arms by James I, due to his money lending activities.
