replied on: 1/3/2006 1:32:35 PM Born in Brum. Raised in Sheldon. Educated in Edgbaston. First house an end terrace in Chelmsley Wood after being refused a council flat. Now (30 years on!)live in a detached in central Solihull. What the hell has all this to do with anything?. I am a proud brummie, who chose to buy a decent gaffe in Solihull because UK pensions are shite and I saved enough money to do so. Proud of my roots. Not proud that I live amongst a lot of smug, opinionated tory tw*ts. But hey, there are some fantastic people here also. A lot of observations recorded here are self agendarised bullsh*t. Birmingham aint Shite and neither is its suburb Solihull!. For goodness sake, be nice to each other!!!. |

replied on: 1/4/2006 2:23:53 PM its the smugness of the solihull D.I.N.K.Ys that most people find offensive. (double income no kids yet) It really doesnt matter what part of brum your from. You will always be a brummie. Many people are to quick to comment on where others live without having lived or going to that area. It is worth remembering though that all areas of birmingham can be nice, its just a small minority that as always ruin it for the rest of us. |

replied on: 3/8/2006 11:10:10 PM Having seen some of the views put forward by those of Solihull persuasion, I feel the dire need to re-educate these deluded souls! As an Edgbastonian, I marvel in disbelief at some who truly believe Solihull has the upper hand on good old Brum. Having been born and bred in this leafy enclave of the city (and the proud owner of a £1.75m property on Westfield Road, at the ripe old age of 41 thank you very much), I can tell you that it is Birmingham which wins hands down every time! We have a city centre with an estimated planned development portfolio of some £6 billion, set to unfold over the next 15 years to match an array of schemes already completed. Statistically, we are the number one choice for relocation of business from London, also reflected in the highest office floorspace rent levels achieved outside of the capital. We are also second-only to London in the retail rankings (Experian) with the prestigious Selfridges, Harvey Nicks and Louis Vuitton (a touch classier than John Lewis - Solihull's finest offering!). We have stunning art galleries and cultural facilities (Brum is incredibly cultured you know!), exciting schemes such as Brindleyplace, The Mailbox and Masshouse, Eastside adding to the mix. Brum also has the finest suburbs of any city within Britain. Obviously, where I live in Edgbaston goes without saying, but look also at the beautiful roads of Harborne, Moseley Village, Selly Park, Bournville, Barnt Green and the Four Oaks, Little Aston and Moor Hall Estates of Sutton Coldfield. Even elsewhere, you will find areas prestige. Handsworth Wood is a case in point - just look at the stunning homes lining Hampstead Hill, Handsworth Wood Road and Englestede Close - a rival for anything Solihull has to offer. So let's face it you Solihullites , where would you be without our fantastic city? I'd even take a pretty good guess that most of you work in Brum and without the employment opportunities it offers, Solihull would not have the relative affluence that it does. Enough said. |

replied on: 4/27/2006 3:25:12 PM Ive been reading this post and just felt the need to join up and reply. I'm from Solihull (Knowle actually) and i always thought that we get a bit of a bad name (even though some of these posts have justified it). I have to admit that there are alot of twats who live here, but on the whole (or hole if we're continuing the gay thing) most people are quiet and get on with their own thing. Its the loudmouth wankers who spoil it. However, there are still a fair old number of wankers in Brum itself and this always gets overlooked. Whoever said about the kevs and goths just needs to look in the Oasis market in town. That place is full of them. I put it down to a wasted youth but not the area you live. I'll agree that the nightlife in Solihull is shit and you couldn't pay me enough money to go into Rosies but most people go out in town anyway. The ones who do stay on friday night are the sort that chant "lets all have a disco" and actually dress up as lifeguards for beach theme nights, so in all fairness we're doing you a favour. It is literally just a suburb of Brum that a few twats spoil by opening their mouths. Most of the people i knew growing up there have fucked off to all parts of the globe so i dont get the inbreeding comment. Basicly im just trying to stick up for those, like me, who have to put up with the twats. We're the innocent ones who constantly get tarred with the twat brush because of a few opinionated wankers. Anyway, less of the hate. Just thank your lucky stars you dont have to put up with the bellend minority |

replied on: 4/16/2007 12:52:32 PM Solihull and Chelmsley Wood! They used to be the same local authority, perhaps they still are. Solihull is ok really. It's a nice clean place in the main but tack on chelmsley and it brings the average to well below birmingham. A few years ago, a chelmsley family were looking to exchange their council maisonette for one in Gaza. Somebody told me Chelmsley's estates are being demolished (to make way for a slum presumably?)Is it true? I don't dare drive through there in case it isn't. |

replied on: 4/16/2007 9:38:29 PM North solihull (kingshurst, chelmsley wood and smiths wood) is currently being re generated parts are being pulled down and re built but mosly its investment in the local area and the amenities. there are some fantastic open spaces (that arent covered in dog shit or concreted over like most of birminghams park land) babbs mill has a great play ground area and a lake to walk round especially on sunny days like we have had the past weekend. |

replied on: 11/30/2007 12:41:15 PM Does anybody know the population for Solihull? I left Brum for sunny Cornwall just over 2 years ago. Working in a seaside town, it's amazing the amount of people with Brummie accents I meet who, when questioned, always say they are from Solihull. When asked where about, it inevitably turns out to be, "well, actually it's a council estate near by!" Oh right, that's Chelmsley Wood then isn't it? Why pretend? Why make Solihull out to be THE place to live? I lived in Weoley Castle for over 30 years and I know the place hasn't got a great reputation, but I loved it (admittedly 2 very dodgy pubs). I could probably get away with telling people that I'm from Bournville but I don't. We're all proud to be Brummies, that's what this site is all about. Let's be proud of where we live EXACTLY and stop lying! Please don't give me too much stick for the fact that I lived in Weoley Castle and the fact that I'm now in Cornwall!!! Pasty anyone? |

replied on: 2/12/2008 10:05:45 PM Although I was born in Solihull hospital, our family home was in Hall Green so I consider myself a very proud Brummie. Now living on the south coast, I do however, stick up for the West Midlands area as a whole.........there's loads of us down here!! |
