| bounder chairman of the board Rank: Ozzy | Our bizarre public art posted on: 9/20/2004 8:24:41 PM Now I'm not talking about the Iron Man, the floozy, or even the centro bus art that's appeared everywhere over that last couple of years - i'm talkign about the tightropewalking medieval dude to be found on Laywood Middleway. Anyone got a clue what he represents? |

replied on: 9/21/2004 10:51:11 AM What's so brave about walking over a reservoir? If he had tightrope walked over an iron foundry or a series of rotating knives, then fair enough, but water, big deal!! Unless he couldn't swim of course. |

replied on: 9/21/2004 5:44:10 PM Oooh... I don't know... falling in most stretches of water in Birmingham may involve splintering your face on a shopping trolley or infecting yourself with hepatitis B if you land on a used syringe. |

replied on: 9/26/2004 12:37:41 PM That's how he earnt his acclaim, by acts of daring-do and recklessness. If he had merely rowed across the ressie in a wet suit, or walked briskly around the perimeter, there would be no statue. (Incidentally the statue shows the performer a few moments before his death in 1897 when a rival tightrope walker severed the rope & Blondin, mere feet into his traverse, stepped off the rope into a bottomless abyss...) |

replied on: 9/26/2004 6:34:46 PM How do you 'step off' a severed tightrope? Did he stand on air for a few seconds before falling, like Wile E. Coyote? |
