| hubgirl | Train Announcements posted on: 5/17/2006 2:38:02 PM Glad to hear that something is finally being done about that ridiculous plummy voice that is currently used for all the announcements at New Street station. Who decided that we Brummies would want to be told our train info by some bloke who sounds like Nicholas Parsons? Apparently they're looking into using a regional accent now because it's pissed loads of other people too. Good! Who would you nominate to record the new voice - our Noddy perhaps? That would be hilarious (for all of 2 minutes) |

replied on: 5/17/2006 5:04:04 PM Nicolas Parsons not good enough? Just a minute! I know he's plummy but who better than Lesley Philips? His voice is irrestible to women, it's a fact.

replied on: 5/17/2006 9:14:06 PM quote: Charlie Mitton. As well as brummie, he does scouse, mancunian, geordie and cockney. He could therefore announce each destination in the appropriate accent. Indeed he already does this in an unofficial capacity sometimes when he's wandering around the station on a vodka binge. |

replied on: 5/18/2006 4:22:15 PM I think that it should be in an accent that few people have heard before, such as Lower Moldovian English. That way nobody can come out with ill-informed comments based on stereotypes and little else. |

replied on: 5/1/2007 4:02:07 PM On a related topic, it's worth getting the 8.00 train from Bournville etc towards lichfield - the guy cannot pronounce many of the station names - he calls them stuff like 'Hurdlingdon', 'Chesney Roan' 'Grabbely Hill' and, my personal favourite, 'Suddenly Colefield'. Really cheers me up in the morning. |
