Oh me of little faith.
replied on: 4/15/2007 7:05:52 AM Did you go and see Cantalope there last night, Russ? And if so how were they? I would have been there myself, only I decided instead to go to The Custard Factory for the Underground City drum & bass / acid techno allnighter. However, while the former was absolutely superb (PCM smashed it to the max as always), I must say that what young folk today call acid techno bears hardly any resemblance at all to the overdriven, screaming 303 riffs that used to define the genre for me back in the early 90's in London. Now it all sounds a bit too much like pedestrian hard house for my liking. It was also the first time at an Underground City event where there were no nitrous balloons on account of that pathetic new legislation that threatens bar and club owners with two years in the nick if they allow it to be sold on their premises. Apart from that, however, I had a really nice night there. The friendly and enthusiastic organizers seem to be doing it as much for the love as for the money, and this is reflected in the all-round friendliness of the crowd in general. No moody vibes whatsoever in a drum & bass room for a change! Maybe there's hope for humanity yet. |
