Funnily enough, I think he probably is one of my favourite Brummies.

If he didn't exist it would be necessary to create him.

That could never be. Like Athena, he would spring forth from the mind of Zeus.

I don't know what to say.
Put-downs and insults I can handle (I've had plenty of practice), but compliments always render me speechless.

Well, let's see if this thread leads anywhere. It may well return to the familiar.

I think this is the burning question on all of our minds.

M8e, get on here now and answer.

Depends on the drugs.
Pete Doherty's drugs of choice (if indeed he still has any choice at this stage), smack and crack, seem to be rather mundane and boring drugs, at least in comparison with the more ontologically challenging major psychedelics. In fact one of the main reasons I've never tried smack or crack is that I tend to adopt an "if it don't make you hallucinate, I'm not interested" policy with regard to drugs.
Certainly compared to the hyper-intense, ultra-vivid realms of bedazzling beauty and philosophical intrigue to which drugs such as psilocybin, DMT and ketamine give access, the pleasures of smack sound distinctly second rate.

Nevertheless I certainly don't think that Doherty deserves to be vilified for his drug taking. Clearly the man himself isn't encouraging impressionable young fans to become junkies, he just wants to be left alone to get high. Rather it's the media's obsessive sensationalizing of his drug taking which risks doing this.

As for his music, the little I've heard of it seems rather insipid to me, but then it's obviously not intended for people with such brutal tastes as myself.
Anyway, Handshake, why do ask? Are you a fan of his?

I think I've missed the boat on this one. What is it that I'm supposed to be looking at here?

He's supposed to be quite good but he'll get in trouble if he doesnt shape up. He should do a proper job of work like Gravy Hole.

Well, that bizarre Pete Doherty based interlude may well seem strange, but maybe it points us in the right direction - this could be the thread in which you ask seemingly random questions of Matie. Y'know, the things on your mind for which you need a definitive answer.

Matie - why is a raven like a writing-desk?

Ironic advice coming from a work-phobic library lounger like you, Handshake.
You're right about it all having been done before, though, and with considerably more style.
Back in the day when the likes of Billie Holiday, Charlie Parker and Miles Davis were doing it, smack had an association with cool artistic bohemianism, whereas now it's just associated with grotty council estates.
