Onr of them wouldn't give Castlemaine XXXX for anything else.

The answer I was looking for, anyway, is "One is good for writing books, the other is good for biting rooks." In this challenge you have failed, Matie-san.

Common and Australian are species of raven - the latter having a more slender profile than the former.

No I haven't.
The above is an answer to the question "what is the difference between a raven and a writing desk?" not "why is a raven like a writing desk?"
You failed to ask the right question.

Don't test with me, boy. We are (quite obviously) pointing towards the phonetic similarity of the two statements. That is the way in which it is similar.

I'm beginning to re-think my thread-starting post now. Do something to amuse me, quick, before I go off you. Dance.

Biting rooks and writing books are surely one and the same. I once saw that Ian Sinclair bite a rook, a great big chunk he took out of it too before it pecked him in the eye, sqwarked "twenty three" and flew off to Ipswich carrying a small ACOP in it's claws.

Yes, but it took mathematicians until the 1800's to
prove that 1+1=2 and not before the late 1970 were they
confident of proving that any map requires no more
than four colors to make it look nice, a fact known by
cartographers for centuries.
There are many not-so-obvious things which can be proved true
too. Like the fact that for any group of 23 people, there is
an even chance two or more of them share birthdays. (With
groups of twins this becomes almost certain. Not quite certain
as you will of course point out: they might all have been born
either side of midnight).
Mathematicians are also fond of proving things which are obviously
false, like all straight lines being curved, and an engaged telephone
being just as likely to be free if you ring again immediately after,
as if you wait twenty minutes.

That still doesn't alter the fact that you failed to ask the right question.
Regardless of any phonetic similarity, the answer you were looking for points to an actual difference, whereas an answer to "why is a raven like a writing table" will begin "Because both..." and describe something they have in common.

Admit it, you've lost this particular battle of (half) wits.

Well, that bizarre Pete Doherty based interlude may well seem strange, but maybe it points us in the right direction - this could be the thread in which you ask seemingly random questions of Matie. Y'know, the things on your mind for which you need a definitive answer.

OK then Russ, I'm ready for another one. But do try to come up with something a bit better than that raven/writng desk nonsense.
I mean it was hardly a Zen koan, was it?
More like something you got from a Christmas cracker.

How about a controversial current affairs issue? A little bit of politics even.
Bring it on.

Christ almighty, you start one thread about him and he thinks he's Deep Thought.

Don't let this go to your head.

I should've known better, I really should've.

specially when the wind blows...

so M8e - your take on the whole CBB fiasco?

(meaning why do you think that HfromSteps was pleased with coming fourth when that's probably the worst position achived by a homosexual in any Big Brother)

No, there was that time in the bathroom when that muslim cross-dresser dropped the soap infront of the jewish transexual...

And to think the critics accuse the producers of picking and mixing contestants just to cause friction.

HEY MATIE! How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

(You know it would, it really would).

If a hen and a half lays an egg and a half in an hour and a half, then how long would it take a monkey with a wooden leg to kick the seeds out of a pickled dill?
