Buffy needed in St Phillip's churchyard
posted on: 2/17/2007 11:44:04 AM

Most saturdays I have to walk through St Phillip's churchyard and witness the 'hilarious' antics of the scores of whey faced denizens that now inhabit it. I listened with astonishment a while ago as I heard some junior Nosferatu argue with his pal as to who was the 'fittest'; Lily Munster or Morticia Addams.
I thought the undead weren't suppose to leave their graves until after the sun went down?

Don't be so quick to make your decision, it's not so a black and white.

no, i see what you mean.

with the young goths, tho', surely there's a more erie churchyard to hang around in?

personally i recomend Aston Manor on church lane, or St Mary's, opposite the Endwood, next to Handsworth park.
(bonus prize to any necrophiles that can tell me which civic dignitaries are buried in each)

Boulton, Watt, Murdoch.

But where in Birmingham is buried Harry Gems, inventor of lawn tennis?

Is it one of the Ansells (the brewing family)? Sir Ansell of Aston maybe?

Them bastards are responsible for a good deal of my memories of the 1980's going missing.

It's a shame it's not Tommy Ball the murdered comedian.

Tell us more about the footballer, people don't generally get murdered for no reason.

From distant memory Tommy Ball was shot by a cuckolded husband.

Tommy Cannon and Bobby Ball however are still with us.

Harry Gems lies somewhere in Warstone Lane cemetery, Jewellery Quarter, tho the council have 'lost' the headstone. So does John Baskerville, in the catacombs section.

Sorry. I'm always getting my cannons and my balls mixed up. I never knew until now there were catacombes in Warstone Lane cemetery. And I went all the way to bloody Malta to see some.

The slightly eccentric local author (and Mitton nemesis), Dr Paul Lester, has published a booklet about the murder of Tommy Ball, available from Protean Pubs, 4 Milton Road, Bentley Heath, B93 8AA.
