| bounder chairman of the board Rank: Ozzy | know your enemy... posted on: 5/25/2007 1:42:47 PM who says they hate Birmingham? I was asked this recentley and apart from Clarkson I struggled to think. Here's what I said... Well there's John Prescott recently - although he was really going on about road planning i think. Prince Charles hates much of our architecture - particularly the central library. Terry Christian has said some nasty things in his time, Christophe Dugarry didn't like the place no matter how much he liked the Blues. Tolkien actually hated the place. The Idler magazine, www.idler.co.uk published a book of "Crap Towns" and begged for people nominate Birmingham Loads of Stephen 'Tin Tin' Duffy's song are about how he had to escape Birmingham. Can you do better? |

replied on: 5/26/2007 4:20:05 PM Just two come to mind at the moment - firstly I seem to recall that spectacularly unlikeable creature Janet Street Porter squawking something derogatory about us recently, while perhaps the earliest known put-down of Brum was when Jane Austen famously said, quote: "One has not great hopes from Birmingham. I always say there is something direful in the sound." Mind you there are times - particularly when I'm travelling on the 94 - when I feel somewhat negative about the place myself. |
