I'm from Kings Norton and I'm starting a degree at UCE in Perry Barr from next month.

I have to say the area is a friggin' dump! To get there, I'll have to drive through New Town Row and Birchfield Rd!

Bloody hell! Dangerous or what?

Have you ever been round the OneStop centre? Talk about taking your life in your own hands......

Anyone here been to UCE?

I doubt driving through Newtown is dangerous in itself - depends how you drive.

When I first saw the title of the thread I thought it said lice; as in LICE. Kinda appropriate really.

It's my alamo-mato. I went there from 1984 through 1984 on an HNC which I very quickly gave up on. In hindsight I reckon it was the thought of having to leave the confines of (relatively) lovely leafy Gravelly Hill and drive there which finally crushed all my ambition and spirit. That road down from Witton used to be quite depressing, although one of the corner shops did an amazing line in "specialist" porn which kept those of us with an interest in zoology amused in the 'fec.

Anyway, since I left I've never looked back, but mainly because it's too painful. Give up is my advice.

be handy for the dog racing though. but you'll have to mind that nasty little turn into the car park

Not bad for the speedway either. If you wanted a better university you should not have pissed about so much at school IMHO.

They've rebranded it now haven't they? It's now Birmingham City University. A case of ironic humour if ever I saw one.

I don't like to spout the typical pensioner cliche, but that never stopped me in the past... "I wonder how much that bloody lot cost!!"

Though sometimes you have to admit that we old folk do knock the nail on the head at times, barring our complete ignorance of Britain's role in colonialism over 400 years. No, British history did in fact start with Vera Lyn, though some like to trace a line from Gracie Fields.

But back to the rebranding, (you see how the autumnal age brain works?) City of Birmingham University I ask you. What committee of highly paid egghead numbskulls came up with that one for Lord's sake? Is it a case of, the day after they'd spent the 5 million pounds on new signage and rebranded promotional materials, someone brought to their attention the similarity with the name of that othe place over in Edgbaston? Imagine the moment the penny dropped..."Oh...f&ck!!"

University wallers are actually walking talking oxymorons aren't they? Some of them are so brainy they are stupid.

It's a bit like they say there is a thin line between facism and anarchy, or genius and madness, etc. I think there is also a thin line between being at the top end of the Mensa scale and being a complete raving bloody idiot. Once someone qualifies as a professor, they need to be taken out in a van and made to tarmac motorways for three years before they go anywhere near another bloody university.

Stop thinking of new names for universities and get a bloody life you brainy gits.
