Sadie Plant's favourite things
posted on: 5/28/2008 6:42:15 PM

One of the most interesting writers and thinkers to have emerged from Birmingham in recent times, Sadie will be giving a talk at Ikon Gallery on 18th June as part of a series entitled "These are a few of my favourite things."
Loosely based on Desert island Discs, these events involve the presentation of eight artistic experiences illustrated by a slide show.

The event starts at 6.30pm and is free, but places must be reserved by calling 0121 248 0708.

If Sadie's talk is going to be anything like the one Brian Duffy (of Modified Toy Orchestra fame) gave at Ikon on Wednesday, it should be quite an event.

Eloquently and entertainingly discussing such diverse subjects as the analogue synthesiser, Buckminster Fuller's geodesic architecture, Einstein's theory of relativity, and Bob Hoskins taking a shower in The Long Good Friday, Brian's talk ended with eveyone knocking-back free vodka (with the ironic exception of Charlie Mitton, who's in recovery mode at the moment) while listening to the Human League.

Cool.

Sounds riveting. I must make a note in my diary. Then again, I could always ask my postman what his favourite things are and save myself the busfare. Who the ****are Sadie Plant and Brian Duffy to expect normal tax-paying folk to want to go and see them, whoever the ****they are, at some poncy fucking art gallery mouthing fucking off about what they fucking like? Who gives a flying ****what they fucking well like? Cunts.

So what are your favourite things then peaky?

Aside from tedious and predictable abuse of course.

Unlike Plant, Duffy and perhaps yourself, my ego is not large enough to make me want to foist my likes and dislikes upon the general public.

It doesn't count as 'foisting' when we're all so eager to hear it. Lay on, MacPeaky.

Meanwhile, is there a link for these talk thingies? I distantly recall reading somewhere that Catherine O'Flynn was doing one.

Come off it peaky - you've been foisting your grouchy misanthropic dislikes on the readers of this site for years.
So how about a bit of positivity for a change? I mean surely there must be some things you get pleasure from that you could share with us.
Or are they all illegal?

BTW - yes Russ - Catherine O'Flynn will be giving the 6th talk in the series on 9th July.
And for everything you need to know about Sadie Plant, along with a multitude of hypertext links to loads of other good stuff, go to -

Misanthropy: now, there's a worthwhile pastime. I'm also partial to the odd glass of Rioja. In moderation, of course.

Peaky, these were your salad days, when you were green in judgement, cold in blood...

Classic stuff, an iconic lesson in flaming.

When ever I'm in need of a tonic I have a little read of it.

I don't know about Rioja and Tonic, that doesn't sound very nice to me.

Nah, that Deckster dude - despite not knowing what "antithesis" means - pisses all over peaky in that particular thread.

Unless of course Deckster and peaky are actually one and the same person.

Now that would almost be quite interesting.

Proof there is no God. Omnipresent (or allgegenwärtig in German) and omniscient, yet frustratingly for you, I note you are not omnipotent. Close, but no cigar.

Machtlos möglicherweise, nicht allmächtig, und zweifellos nicht allgegenwärtig. Du?
