Shittiest High Street
replied on: 4/18/2006 3:53:12 PM quote: It does. I've occasionally wondered when pound shops, due to inflation, will have to become £1.10 shops (like Mr Egg) or whether the nature of the products sold necessarily will have to become shittier and shitter to remain saleable at a profit for a pound, until the wares are little more than things swept in from the street. Until last week, when on the High Street of Huddersfield, Yorkshire, I encountered my first 99p shop - a savage attempt to undercut the many £ shop competitors on that street. Over the event horizon, now entering the Einstein Rosen bridge, to further your analogy. (I've also wondered whether the pound shop on Kings Heath High Street which sells everything at "£.1" is legally obligated to sell its products at 10p each - point one of a pound - to anyone who demanded so.) |
