Filming locations of regional movies
replied on: 8/8/2004 12:33:02 AM

I think that foreign-location thing is kind of a crutch. Alai Payuthey didn't use it. Khamoshi: The Muscial didn't. Bollywood Hollywood didn't.
It is really a gamble since a movie that spends a lot of money sets the bar very high and can easily be counted a flop by not making the money back. A lot of what is filmed in some exotic location isn't good picturization. You'll hardly ever see a great dance in such a situation. Usually the picture is full of "we're in love" cliches.

I don't look for it anymore. My impression is that the art movies I like so much USUALLY don't have it (I think maybe Kandukondien Kandukondien was an exception to that rule).

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was a good movie with one song shot in a castle. That could have been done more simply with the same impact.
