Mollywood, Malluwood, Different Trees, Same Joke

I'd call this a tempest in a teapot. The names are all made-up anyway. If Bollywood is a spoof of Hollywood, what is Malluwood? Heck, WE could make up our own! How many of us really even READ Telugu news media? If they actually use that term, it is pretty meaningless outside that media.

I think that foreign-location thing is kind of a crutch. Alai Payuthey didn't use it. Khamoshi: The Muscial didn't. Bollywood Hollywood didn't.
It is really a gamble since a movie that spends a lot of money sets the bar very high and can easily be counted a flop by not making the money back. A lot of what is filmed in some exotic location isn't good picturization. You'll hardly ever see a great dance in such a situation. Usually the picture is full of "we're in love" cliches.

I don't look for it anymore. My impression is that the art movies I like so much USUALLY don't have it (I think maybe Kandukondien Kandukondien was an exception to that rule).

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was a good movie with one song shot in a castle. That could have been done more simply with the same impact.

The majority of Malayalam movies are filmed in Kerala and near Tamil Nadu border. Malluwood rarely go outside India to shoot songs and stuff.

Big budget movies have one or two songs picturized abroad.

For ex. RUN had two songs abroad. The ethiri stills of maddy were in abroad. etc etc.

I know essentially Hindi movies are filmed abroad with local settings, for example in Mujhse Dosti Karoge, they filmed in Switzerland but it was set in Simla, Punjab. Same wid Mujhse Shaadi Karoge, it was filmed abroad, but set in Goa.

I read that Kangal Kaidu Sei was filmed in Switzerland. But essentially where are Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam movies filmed, at home or abroad?
