IIFA Awards in Singapore (Bollywood In Singapore)
posted on: 3/18/2004 4:19:44 AM

The IIFA Awards are going to be held in Singapore this year. (IndiaFM article)But I wont be in Singapore at the end of May, so I'll miss it!

And they actually show a few unrealeased movies during the IIFA Awards, (IndiaFM article) so I will miss a chance of watching them on top of missing a chance to see all the stars

Btw, some movie is going to be shot in Singapore at the end of March (thankfully, I'll still be here then). (see IndiaFM article) Its not a major film, just has Arjun Rampal, Zayed Khan and Amisha Patel. But I hope to catch the shooting. So if anyone in Singapore has some idea about where they'll be shooting, please post it here or send me an email. Thanks.

Perhaps this thread could be used to update the people living in Singapore and nearby regarding the IIFA Awards and other Bollywood events, especially as it seems Singapore is finally waking up to recognise the Bollywood film industry now.

Thanks for replying.
Well the venue etc for showing the movies is not confirmed yet I think because the whole event is still being planned. But since the IIFA awards will be a three day event, I guess for two of the days, they'll show the movies. I am not actually very sure whether they will show the full movie. The article where I read that from is on IndiaFM. Well I think they'll probably premiere one movie and launch a few others or something.

Yup let let each other know

Milestone films premiere here

Bollywood director Mani Ratnam made cinematic history by shooting two versions of the same movie, in Hindi and Tamil. Both will premiere here

By Sherwin Loh

LOST in translation.

Singapore movie-goers will be spared that problem facing dubbed movies when Tamil director Mani Ratnam premieres his new film here during the Bollywood Oscars weekend next month.

They can catch either one of two standalone versions in Hindi and Tamil, at Lido Cineplex on May 20. Both will be shown at the same time in different halls.

The film will also be shown on the same day in India.

'I used to make movies in one language and dubbed them. But the translation always carried a few glitches that bothered me,' said the 48-year-old director at a press conference in New Delhi on Wednesday.

His solution, to shoot the movie in two languages, is a breakthrough in Indian cinema.

One of India's most influential directors, he is known for dealing with socio-political issues in his films.

The new film, which focuses on the lives of three men from different social circles, cost around 200 million rupees (S$7.5 million) in total to produce.

The Hindi version, called Yuva, stars Vivek Oberoi, Abhishek Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor.

The Tamil version, called Aayitha Ezhuthu, stars Madhavan, Siddharth and Esha Deol.

The premiere will launch the Singapore Iifa (International Indian Film Academy) Weekend, which will include a forum and charity sports event.

Quips Bachchan at the press conference: 'The Hindi crew used to joke that Ratnam made a Tamil version because he knew that the film was going to make money. Now, they are insecure because Singapore has a stronger Tamil market.'

At the two-hour conference, the list of Iifa award nominations was also made public. It is available at www.msn.co.in/iifa and fans have until May 1 to log on and vote.

Results will be audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers which also handles the Oscar ballots.

The fifth Iifa awards will be held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on May 22.

Meanwhile, the exposure that Singapore has gained from hosting the awards show has generated inquiries from Indian production companies on filming here, says Mr Gerard Lee, assistant chief executive of leisure, Singapore Tourism Board, who also attended the conference.

'We are working with the Media Development Authority, and will be using the Iifa Forum to announce incentives and assistance programmes, both financial and non-financial.'

No details given yet...unfortunately..:-(
But I heard that Vivek n Abhishek will be here!! Maybe to promote Yuva..Rite now, Zayed Khan, Amisha n Arjun are here in Singapore, shooting Vaada, where they'll be shooting about a third of the film. They're filming @ the Bird Park, the Esplanade, Sentosa, the Singapore National Eye Centre (cos Arjun plays a blind man in the movie) n maybe even Orchard Road. They'll be here, tentatively, till the 20Apr.

Hey Imma, where did you get the information about the shooting? Wish I knew the exact day they are going to be at the Esplanade and at the SNEC, then I would go, just to see the shooting. But I definitely wont go all the way to Sentosa or Bird Park and pay their entrance fees just for this.

There are strong chances that Farhan Akhtar´s next directorial venture after ´Dil Chahta Hai´ , ´Lakhshya´ may be promoted during the upcoming IIFA awards in Singapore next month .

´Lakhshya´ stars Amitabh , Hrithik and Preity Zinta and is expected to release on June 11 .

Hi Imma,

Yup I am living in Singapore too. That is why I am so excited about the IIFA awards being held here, etc. But as I mentioned above, I wont be here when the awards are going to be held. Will you be going for it? I guess it depends on the ticket price, huh?
