posted on: 6/7/2003 1:34:07 AM

Okay I was confuse!! Everywhere I goes, people always said that SRK didn't look good only his acting are good!! I don't get it.. Why they always compared him with Hrithik, Salman, and Aamir etc.. saying he's not as good looking as those actor!! I seriously don't understand it! Because as for me, I personally think Shahrukh look so handsome!! I especially love his eyes! So I was wonder does he look that bad in Bollywood eyes?

I was prompted to react to this by a comment made by a (Greek late-twenties female) friend I'm currently sharing an apartment with during my brief Luxembourg hiatus. I introduced her to the Indian films by explaining the concept and showing her the beginning of Dil se which, to me, combines a good filmi start with a powerful early song & dance routine to offer a good intro to the BW world. While introducing the characters, I explained Shah Rukh's divine status with the female crowd, to which my friend disbelievingly replied: "Him?? He's not even handsome!"

It's been mentioned or implied many times before that Shah Rukh's strong asset is his likable personality. Cases like this, coupled with my stereotipic reasoning, seem to strongly confirm this view. It is quite possible that once my friend gets to sit through an entirety of your typical Shah Rukh performance and sees him in action with the heroine, any passing lady, especially if she's elderly, assorted kids or friends, she will warm to his wonderful good-guy persona, and then he will suddenly appear much more attractive to her.

If you accept this theory, it also seems to support the stereotypical perception that women can indeed find beauty (or attractiveness) from within. Shah Rukh, who an unsuspecting stranger looking at his photograph might find to be exquisitely non-special, becomes the shrine of beauty to all those who love every little picture of him exactly because it reminds them of his fairytale persona. Accordingly, Shah Rukh is one of the few stars who would actually work on his sex appeal by maintaining his public image of loyalty and faithfulness, dismissing any doubts as to the fact that his romantic life revolves around Gauri and the children. "Ahh, he is so faithful," the masses gasp and yearn for him even more.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, or, perhaps in this case, in her heart and dreams. ;-)

Baloo, that was so sweet! And so true. And very well said.

I'm a white American female, and I was introduced to SRK by another white American who first showed me his picture (looking straight at the camera...this is important!)

My initial reaction was, "He's wickedly handsome!" based on those mesmerizing eyes. Then I watched Mohabbatein, which she'd sent me on tape. The first time he turned sideways and I got a look at that profile I nearly spat out my drink.

Mohabbatein was my first look at both BW and Shahrukh, and I must say I was enchanted by them both. Shahrukh's screen personality...his charisma, his charm, his energy are what drew me in. Oh yeah, and those eyes.

I have to add that I've shown his films to a handful of my family and friends, and without exception all the females think SRK is quite handsome, in an exotic sort of way.

I also think SRK is very handsome! I first saw him on the Asoka dvd cover and I thought "wow! who is this guy". I was watching Bazigaar last night and caught myself saying outloud "what a good looking man". I agree though with what Baloo said. She got the point across perfectly. For me it is most certainly his eyes and the way he exudes energy. I am attracted to that energy. SRK is a very charismatic person and that adds to his appeal. But I do find him physically attractive, especially when he is wearing a see through shirt or in the water. Or when he gives that look, you know the one I mean!

Last year, I saw Asoka and Lagaan. I thought nothing of them, SRK, or Amir. Then, six months later, I saw KKHH, then K3G, then DDLJ, the Mohabbatein, the DTPH, etc....
Yes, I think it is definately the personality that gets you. Then, you start to notice little physical things you like... The smile, the eyes, the hips... (Yeah, Ishq Kameena is my FAVOURITE video of ALL time!)

Maybe it is because one can hardly imagine that a Slovenian man would want to share an apartment with a Greek woman (or vice versa). Maybe it is a glimpse of my feminine side, so touted in the third millenium prototype of a new and improved "Man 2000 Turbo". I don't know what, but something in my letter must have given you the impression that I was a woman. Now, just to prevent any of the newcomers from ma´king this mistake and to soothe my masculine insecurity, I may have to write a post drooling over Aish...

(And now they shiver with fear at the thought that a MAN can describe Shah Rukh's appeal! Haha! ;-))
