The end has finally come to this once prospourous forum. The dream that it was, has long since fallen to the black wind. The station lies is disrepair, the power has failed, and soon I fear... so will what little life support there is left. I am the last of my kind. I have watched in horror as one by one, the hopes of my siblings were dashed against the rocks of reality until they lay dead and broken. I stood bound as each in turn fell to the beast. All that is left is dust. Yet here I still stand. A part of me may do so forever. Such is the path. This place is a tomb of what Star Wars Galaxies could have been. Remember it as such. Do not weep for us. We chose our fate with open eyes. I scrawl this message here in the hopes that you will not fall prey to the fate that has befallen the denizens of Blades Battle Station. There has been a gentle whisper in these dark corridors as of late. The swish of robes, the wail of the reaper's song. At first I thought it imagined, but now I see the truth. Death has come at last. I have managed to collect enough fuel for a single life pod, I am pointing it towards a small binary system about 50 light years away. If my cryogenics don't fail I may reach my goal... but it is unlikely. I think what killed this place may travel with me. If you have mercy in you, take my friends to their homeworlds. They deserve as much. Let them finally rest in peace. Monketsu Okemasa August 26th, 2003 pointed towards coordinates 65.2, 39.4 along outlining wild space |

Was it the introduction of Jedi (the SWG game DEVs simply flipping the Jedi switch "on") that messed up the SWG community? Was it the Jedi Grind that messed up the SWG community? Was it the SWG game DEVs overlooking fine tunning the base, core game, and instead working on a whole new part of the game - the Space Expansion..... that messed up the SWG community? |

replied on: 9/1/2004 12:44:36 AM Hello to all of the original peeps. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back from 4 years ago. Just dropped by to see if anyone was alive. I see some of you come back from time to time. Cap, what may have killed SWG was time. I had none and when I did SWG was too repetitive for me. It required too much time to do anything fun--too much grind and not enough fun. SWG started in the wrong time frame also. It should have started after RotJ. Then having Jedi and Dark Jedi from the beginning would have been no problem for those who are concerned with continuity issues. This would have also given the Devs more freedom to be more creative with out stepping on the toes of the any movie. Back in December I quit SWG for a while. Then started up a few months later and played on my wife's galaxy this time hoping that playing with her and diving into PvP would rekindle my enthusiasm for SWG. The same problems were still there. Weak PvP, little content, way too much grind. Combine that with a shrinking amount of time to dedicate to SWG finally killed it for me. We sold the account about a month and a half ago. I think that I was looking for something that gave me the same feelings of excitement and community as UO did for me. But I came to realize that I spent much more time playing UO, about 8-10 hours every day. Those days are gone. MMORPGs are just not made for the casual player. And I am a casual player now. Guild Wars may be the only thing close to a MMORPG I will play again. And I'll play Star Wars Battlefront for a Star Wars fix. I hope all of you had fun with SWG and I won’t forget this board. Good people in here. Keaggan |

replied on: 9/3/2004 6:48:52 PM *comes creeping out of a long forgotten corner* My, my... I just thought on a hunch to trawl into some of my old hunts and low and behold here some folks be. I never actually got around to playing SWG. Yes, yes, I know. I'm a heretic. But it dropped off my interest list after it's initial release. I've still been playing a few persistant servers for Neverwinter Nights. I just can't help it, fantasy is my schtik. If any of you care to drop me a line do so at ShadowCat@ev1.net or ShadowCatJen@Yahoo.com. I may lurk about here from time to time, just to keep the atmosphere somewhat unstale. |

replied on: 9/15/2004 10:14:50 PM Nice Epitaph! quote:Wow! Has it been that long? What did it in for me was that SWG felt like a chore instead of entertainment. Too much grind and even more upkeep. Also, Criminal Faction never made it to the game. PvP? What's that? I wish they would have waited till at least Player Cities were available before releasing the game. Great cities had come and gone before the Player Cities were implemented. Plus, holding off till the game had content would have kept players still playing. However, I do plan on giving JTL (Jump To Lightspeed, SWG expansion, for those that are in the cryogenic freeze already) a try. I haven't played in over 6 months so I'm looking forward to what is new. Monketsu, my old criminal friend, I will see you at those coordinates. And to everyone else I will also be traveling to EQ2. replied on: 9/21/2004 12:53:35 AM EQ2!!! NOOOOOO!!!! If you really want to play a game that is both engaging and fun wait for Guild Wars. No grind. PvP tournies, Guild Wars (of course), PvP missions, evolving PvE story lines and most of all NO MONTHLY FEES from launch. At least try it this Oct 29-31 for free. Down load the client, which is only about 90k, yes I said 90k. On Oct 29-31 everyone will get a chance to play in the beta for free. Hope to see you there. Keaggan |

replied on: 10/6/2004 12:19:50 AM Like my last post I'm still happily battling crime in Paragon City playing City of Heroes. I never made it past the beta stage of SWG as the reality of the grind hit me... it wasn't going to be fun. I think that the suggestions here have merit - changing the timeline to post RotJ would have helped. But that's something for SWG2. This community was one of the few reasons I stayed interested in SWG for as long as I did. Thanks to everyone and may you find what you're looking for in whatever MMORPG you play |

replied on: 11/12/2004 1:50:35 AM Wow, this webpage is still turned on! Yeah its been a long long time since I sold my account, right before the Jedi scourge. I actually have friends that are trying to woo me into playing EQ2, but im wary from my SWG experience. I think the thing that killed SWG for me was that it took forever to do anything fun. I didn't like that it could take 15 to 30 minutes just to get to a cool place and by then you might have to go. Halo 2 has my attention right now. May the force be with you. replied on: 12/6/2004 11:35:39 AM Heh, i'm only off by 3 months, not too bad... Can't believe it's been so long. Never made it past beta myself. Combat just wasn't very "compelling", and the rest of the game was just the same ole grind. So much potential (and so much time spent on the boards, *doh*). I burnt out on the treadmill in my MUD days, and MM-anything pretty much all seem like "fancy-graphical MUD", just a prettier grind. SWG was going to be the game to lure me back out, the Star Wars Universe and the promise of being "casual friendly". Alas, once one burns out on the grind, we really do become "casual" style players. Strangely enough, I find Star Wars Battlefront to be a much more immersive Star Wars experience than Galaxies ever was. (If only it could be more than just the battles. But they *are* great battles!) Everquest 1.1, with Star Wars Skins. Great for some, but just not enough for me :/ Sure do miss the community though, heh, Aggies |
