Character Profiles

I'm sure you guys went through this already, but what ARE you hoping to create with your chars?

I want to be a bothan character with very limited force ability. I want to live in a player run community as a bussiness man by day. Maybe trader. And moonlight as a dealer in the black market. Not afraid to get his hands dirty when dealing with the competition(if you know what I mean).

If you read my intro posts you'll know I'm new to pc's, so I'm new to MMORPGs. How does character identification work? Do you immediately know everything about another PC just by seeing him enter a room? If so, what's your opinion on how it works? How can it work better? How many questions is too many?

we're not exactly sure what they wil allow us to see of other characters. Typically, not much. You typically can see their name, a title (whether guild or game-based), what they are wearing, and any weapons they are holding.

In UO, you could also look into their packs to see what they were carrying (and try to steal it if you were a thief), and there was a scroll that you could click on that players could use to write a history or whatever about their chart for others to read--few ever bothered.

I'm sure SWG will follow suit--which means you'll only know other chars by name, title, and what they look like and wear.

Working like this:

On your screen there is a small rectangular field. At first it just shows the name of another PC. When you get more equipment, the field changes to include a graphic for a light that flashes two colors, green or red, or else it doesn't blink. The light corresponds to affiliation. Now, no matter what the light is showing, you have access to the local holonetwork. With subsequent upgrades you have access to the globalnet and so on. Obviously you have access to more info. The light being a link to a holographic overlay onscreen which displays all available info.

So my bothan businessman walks down the street. You see my name flash in the field. You rescroll to my name and click the light for more info. You start to tail me and a minute later the light flashes red. Alert. You call up your holo-overlay and see that I've been a busy PKer. I'm wanted on three planets and subsequently I'm wanted dead by the empire along with a laundry list of PA's who are offering bounty. You just decide who to cash in to.

I think it could work

but I think they should have it that you need the right equipment (like you said, something to access the holonet). Anybody without this equipment wouldn't know your business man from a hole in the ground.

But that's the whole point for some people in these types of games. To find out through conversation with your character that: Yes, indeed he owns the shop just down the road and *in a conspiritorial whisper* knows where you can get a few imperial weapons for dirt cheep. Already knowing right off the bad the when, where, who, what, and how much even before you say one word to the guy just takes something away. At least for me it does.
