| Keaggan Rogue Jedi Knight Quote | Reply | | Is Beta For You? posted on: 4/26/2003 10:47:57 PM It's funny that I am not sure if I would want to be in beta. In the beganing I thought I did, now I am uncertain. Sure I could play SWG sooner, but it would be incomplete. I could try many different species and professions but they all would get wiped. I could learn the game machnics prior to starting my actual gaming experience. However, one the best things about UO was the disovering. Learning how it all works and exploring the terrain. This all leads me to the conclution that it may be better to never be in the SWG Beta. What I really look forward to is how SWG will be 6 months after it goes live. Because all of the communities will be forming and PA's will begin to astablished themselves. That is what will make SWG a great game. The introduction of player run towns will add to this greatly. I hope to see you all their Keaggan, Rogue Jedi Knight |

Is Beta For You?
replied on: 4/27/2003 3:09:02 AM I would have liked to be in Beta so I could figure out all those quirkly little things that I know I wouldn't want to do at release for my chars that don't get wiped. The reason behind this was that I am (or WAS, rather) playing Earth and Beyond and I had all these skillpoints that I had and couldn't allocate until I reached x level. when I reached x level, I still could not allocate them to the skills that I really wanted to advance, so I spread them out amongst weapon profciencies that I eventually would wind up not using at all and would really have liked to put into something that was actually useful. In SWG, I know the devs have stated that skillpoints will be able to be sold back so chars aren't stuck w/ useless stuff but getting the xp for the new skill you want still takes time and so does getting the skill that will eventually be useless to your char for whatever reason. I believed Beta is extremely helpful in weeding out stuff that just doesn't fit your playstyle/expectations so later on, when the "live" game world is evolving you don't get left in the dust of all the power gamers. |

Is Beta For You?
replied on: 4/27/2003 7:56:36 PM It's ironic that my case is the complete opposite. I was happy to extol the virtues of playing SWG once the finished game was ready to go and I didn't really want to be in the beta... Then on Saturday I get the email invitation to be part of beta 3 and I just couldn't turn it down. Leaving aside the cost of shipping three CDs to Australia (about A$75)and the NDA I'm now looking forward to being part of the experience. A perfect example of the fickleness of human nature. |

replied on: 4/27/2003 8:51:23 PM I agree Keaggan that discovery is one of the best parts of the gaming experience. However, I don't look forward to SWG after 6 months from going live. The MMORP games EQ & DAoC that I had played (<-notice past tense) were great during their first 6 months. Then along comes the negativity with people taking a "GAME" way too seriously. Hopefully SWG will be different, and people will remember the key fact that SWG is just a "GAME," just one that happens to have the best fictional setting of all times. I wonder how the SWG live team is going to respond when players don't run the towns the way the Devs had visioned. Players are going to get agitated with other players play styles. How is the staff going to keep the game fun? Too bad Raph stated that SWG is not going to be a massive PvP centric game. Instead of players whining what so and so did, they can have their in-game justice with hard core PvP. But with a hard core PvP game players are going to whine that the game is not balanced. I worry that the first 6 months of the game that are going to be the greatest; players are going to enjoy being emerged in the Star Wars Universe. Then some will forget what the "GAME" was all about to begin with, and start whining about how the game sucks. As far as being in Beta I figure I am the second person, (first being Contradiction |

replied on: 4/27/2003 10:54:12 PM For those of us that played UO we can truely say that it is like no other MMORPG. They games you mentioned did not have the depth that UO provided. Nor the flexability. And since a lot of the same philosophy of UO is being carried over to SWG but im a refined state we will see and experience an amazing game. One that will hold our intrest for some time. So DL no need to worry that it will get boring and in a game that will have 500,000+ people playing do not get too disscoraged over the few that take it too serioously. Just laugh and realize that there are people like us on this board that just like to have fun creating a community Keaggan, Rogue Jedi Knight |

replied on: 4/28/2003 10:17:52 AM I try to limit my exposure to new areas. I go when they ask me to, but I really don't want to explore much until the game comes out. Luckily, there's alot of things you can test that don't necessitate full-blown exploration. |

replied on: 4/28/2003 11:52:32 AM I was hoping to get into Beta until just recently. Only for one reason: I know as soon as I get into it I ain't coming back out. It's going to be one of those addicting things for me, I just -know- it. So I'm getting everything that I need to get done done because once it's here I'll have no life what so ever. It will be work, SWG, sleep... and not necessarily in that order. |
