...and with the conclusion of exam week, the Star Wars InfoNet is complete. (At least to the standards of the professor. Mine... that's another story. It still has some holes in it.)

If anyone wants to Beta test my site and/or give me some constructive criticsm I woould not object. :-)

Just invision a cute little puppy dog begging for approval and that's me right now!

(I'll apologize in advance for the monsterous 4meg WAV audio clip on the homepage but I didn't get around to converting it yet)

The site looks pretty good. A few things from me:

1. The lt/dk gray links doesn't stand out that well on a black blackground. The gold text is also a little hard on my eyes.

2. Your pages are designed for monitors with +1024px width. I currently run at 1024x768 (which I think is the Internet programming standard now, but most people stick with designing for 800x600). I would make your pages more fluid (meaning it will resize to fit smaller browsers better) or design for a browser a tad bit smaller. I rarely run my MSIE at full screen.

3. Sorry to dissapoint but background sounds went out in the 90s...

4. I would recommend looking into stylesheets (CSS) and using it to control your text and backgrounds, etc. It makes updating your site a lot easier. Also, does your server support SSI (server-side includes)? If so, then I would look into do that too. It saves a ton of time, because you can have certain sections (like your menu bar) be in one file that is pulled by every other page. So you make 1 edit in your menu, upload it, and all of your pages are updated, etc.

5. I like your button graphics for the subsections of your site. But a few of them (I really noticed it on the factions page), are a bit blurry/hard to read. I know what they say, because of my SW background. ("Smugglers" looks like "Smigglers" to me.)

Looks like you put a ton of time into this project and it looks really good so far. There is a ton of good information there and overall it is a good site.

I am a web site snob , so don't feel like I am saying that you did something wrong. When, in fact, there isn't anything big for me to pick on other than the background/foreground (text) color issue.

take care,

No no no, I need feedback. :-)

Replies:

1.I designed the visited links to sort of sink back after they had been clicked, hence the less-visible grey. The gold is part of the color scheme of the overall site and your complaint is the first one I'v had, but thanks all the same. :-)

2. Actually, my pages are designed for 1024 res. Are your IE options set to resize text and other things that would make the tables/cells wack out?

3. Lol, I just had to! :-)

4. I am currently using Style Sheets, but whether or not the site (which is only 80% done) has them applied to all pages is another matter

5. Not sure about the SSIs, but my site is designed so that updates will not be an issue that will modify more than just the page being added, so it shouldn't be a problem.

5. Yes, I also thought I was pushing it with that font but with the deadlines I was facing it was a moot point by the time I finished everything. :-)

6. :-) Thanks very much. I appreciate the pat on the back from a fellow fan. I was thinking I might have people breathing down my neck for not including pertinant info w/o reading the statement of objective on the main page.

Thanks again for the feedback.
