What'd everyone think of the Matrix Reloaded?
posted on: 5/22/2003 11:38:16 PM

I know this isn't an SWG-related post, but I'm sure everyone's got something to say about the new Matrix

Personally, I think this movie may have deviated just a little too much from the the tone set by the first Matrix. Every scene, especially Neo and Trinity banging and the "Burly Brawl" had me checking my watch to see how long it had been dragging on for. My jaw was either dropped in sheer awe at the kick-ass action sequences or in sheer bewilderment at the ultra-confusing dialogue.

The movie also had a drastically different pace to it than the first. Whereas the Matrix had your heart in your throat with the protagonists hanging on by a thread every second, Reloaded felt so much more rushed and more narrated, especially when they infiltrate that building.

I don't know, I get pretty long-winded talking about this movie, but it is fairly enigmatic to fans of the original.

So what did you guys think?

Also, any thoughts on this upcoming Matrix MMORPG?

It's a different film, but I loved it for what it was. I didn't think it was as good overall as the first, but I was actually glad that they didn't try to give us "more of the same".

There are a lot of criticisms about this movie, but the sense I get is that people are simply irritated that the directors couldn't give them the same sense of magical wonderment that the first film delivered. But the truth is that it was likely impossible for them to capture with a sequel, so they chose another path.

Over-analyzing the film does it an injustice. The Brothers were simply trying to make the ultimate blend of scifi and kung fu action--not a sublimely deep commentary on the transcendent human condition to be finitely mulled over by the pseudo intellegencia. The man-machine symbolism is there to drive the story, not the other way around. And on that basic level, they obviously delivered a tour deforce.

It's not their fault that people tried to write their doctoral philosophy theses off the implications of the first film.

I've seen it twice and probably will see it again before it exits the theater.

Personaly I thought it flowed well and fits the over all story of the trilogy. I wont get into much detail for the sake of those that did not see it.

I look forward to the next one.

From a purly Hollwood , movie-goer view I think this movie was worth the money spent to see it.

How close is it to the 10 books it is very, very, very, loosly based on? The movie is still good. But the movie is perhaps equivilant to just 1 chapter in the most recent of the Matrix books in terms of content.

Either I didn't hear a lot of the explanatory dialogue, or the W. Brothers need to be less symbolic and inferrential.

Yes, the action scenes needed more variety. How many times during the Mutliplying Agents scene did we see Neo send an agent flying unclimactically through a park bench? Last time I checked this guy/guys can get run over by trains and shrug it off. How are a couple of wood planks going to excite the audience?

It was pretty decent.

It needed to be seen, because of the first movie.

As a stand alone movie experience, it was fairly decent. Not as much "blow you away" as the original matrix.

But a good deal of the appeal of the first movie was the concept. The idea of the "matrix". A sequel, by definition, is no longer new. It's old hat.

Personally I thought the fight sequences reminded me too much of Crouching Tiger (I wonder why?? :p). Too much blocking, too much choreography. It looks less like fighting, and more like dancing. Hits actually have to land. THe fighting in the original matrix was better, IMHO.

I liken it to Jurassic Park. All the sequels weren't as good as the original, because the concept is "done". The first one rocked, because you had cloning of dinosaurs. But after that, it's been done, and each new one really has nothing more to add.

After the first movie, I really didn't leave going "wow, now what will happen, how will they defeat the matrix?". I got all I needed from it. The discovery of the matrix, and the one. After that I really didn't need anymore, the neat concept was done.

So for me, this movies are adding something that wasn't really missing. Of course I'l still see them, and see how the story unfolds. But it is with less interest, then watching the original.

Considering what they had to work with, I think they did okay. The story is interesting. I do want to know what happens next. The stuff with the architect is an interesting twist. (Spoiler follows) I just hope that they don't go all silly and say that Zion itself is also a matrix (as some sites have tried to predict).

I'd rather that Neo have a real life connection to the machines, than jus tbe inside another matrix. I don't think there is enough support in the story for that idea, but films have skated plots on alot less.

Aggies (Damn, those Jurassic Park Sequels really sucked, heh)
