replied on: 6/27/2003 2:11:02 PM DW, we need to change your name to DarthMacro. I'm of the same mindset you are, Roland, but I do lean a little more towards the "hey, it's only the first week" way of thinking. I was part of the UO beta too and could remember all the hicups the login servers had the first few days of release. Then again a small part of me is wondering why the Devs didn't expect this sort of load the instant the game came out. Pardon the pun, but I think they underestimated the power of the force. I'm sure they were expecting a high load call the first few days, but I don't think they calculated on the weight of two little words... "Star Wars". When you tag Star Wars onto something you need to times it by at least 3. It is a household name, say it and Joe Average on the street will know what you're saying. Long story short, I don't think they took that into account. But, even if I had the game right now (finances are not allowing for the moment) I more than likely would not flip a gasket because I couldn't log in yet. Tech crap happens. Hell, when my dad got his Mini-cooper when it first came out it got recalled a few times and concidering the price he paid for it you'd think it work perfectly right out the box. Frankly, I think this general "must play now cause I paid for it" attitude is rooted in the "must be first in so I can do things before everyone else" attitude (a.k.a. the "I finished the game first" attitude). *shrug* Then again I've been told I have the patience of a mountain. Wait a good week for things to settle down, then we'll see what the attitude is. |

replied on: 6/27/2003 11:34:59 AM heres a tip unless u where a beta tester (because then u knew that ANY release is destine to have issues) dont try playing the game untill a week after start... heck i started playing AC2 2 weeks in... unless ur playing to try to be the first at everything.... waiting only makes things easier... more people to train u, more infrastructure in place and stuff like weps and armor are going to now be made... But then u have people like me who want to get in and macro ASAP |

replied on: 6/27/2003 10:41:01 AM With yesterday debacle…. I noticed on the boards and in the chat rooms basically to schools of thought… 1st one being hey... it’s the 1st day things are meant to go wrong give a couple three days and things will smooth out… 2nd being hey I’m the consumer I paid my hard earned money to play the 1st day not to be apart of beta test 4…. Well I think I’m in that gray area. I’ve been apart of a couple betas for online games going back to Ultima Online. I can understand back than having this issue with launch day because it was a brave new world…. But now it’s kind of becoming a standard affair. As a beta tester (as I was with this one as well) you expect problems because it comes with the territory…. It’s our job to “stress out” the system. As a consumer though regardless if it’s an mmorpg or not when it is shipped and you have paid should you not be able to play?? <Gets off soapbox> What do you guys think? |
