Man you guys confuse the hell outa me. lol.

Common sense-wise I would think that one would not have to become a brawler in order to become a swordsman/melee fighter, since the two are, by definition, opposites. Yes, it would be a good idea to be able to floor someone in the middle of a sword duel, but that would be the sign of a more experienced and resourceful swordsman.

If I totally misunderstood what you were saying DW, don't throw me in the room.... yeah that one. dun dun dun!

But it's my understanding that it is specific SKILLS that trigger the upper/hybrid professions--not complete mastery in the basic professions (hence the word "some").

its my impression that to be a master swordsman one would have to master brawler... or for someone to become a master rifleman he or she would have to master marksman...

quote:

the Starting Professions:
Artisan
Brawler
Entertainer
Marksman
Medic
Scout

Elite and Hybrid Professions
The following professions require some level of mastery in one or more of the Starting professions.

So while a master marksman might be decent in combat, prob could not hold a candle to a rifleman.

And while some of the professions might branch off when one reach lvl 5 of a skill
as is indicated by the scout/farmer...

it apears that to become a commando one would have to master both bralwer and marksman... bounty hunter also seems to require comeplete mastering of 2 previous professions (most like a combat one and one i cant figure out)... thus leaving those 11 point to go...

which might allow someone to go up one specific part of a branch to the top... hopefully... then i still might get my commando w/ some squad leader bonus or ranged healing

there's a difference between "mastery" and simply gaining access to the hybrid profession DW. Can you be the "Master" bounty hunter and have those other abilities? probably not--but then, that doesn't necessarily mean you aren't as resourceful.

In some ways, Mastering a profession can be more limiyting than spreading your skills out, so we'll just have to really see where the benefits truly lie. If things are balanced properly, then those will likely come down to personal taste alone.

Hybrids... not enough of a good thing?

here holo answers a question...

quote:

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can I master an elite profession and still have enough points to master a single weapon? To what extent?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Depends on whether the elite profession calls for one prior profession as a pre-req, or two. We refer to the latter as “hybrids.” If you master a hybrid, you only have 11 skill points left over. That’s enough to only get a few skills. The hybrids tend to come off the combat professions though, so you’re likely to have a pretty good handle on weaponry already.

and here from the dev chat rogue5 states

quote:

Adyreon asked: What is the starting profession if you plan to be a commando?

Rogue_5 said: It is a hybrid profession actually. You have to work up a certain way in Brawler and Marksman to open it up.

i guess that means commandos or bounty hunters wont have combat medic or squad leader skills
