| suggesting for polls. posted on: 12/29/2003 10:23:03 PM could it be possible to change the poll system somewhat so you can see the answers without voting? Or have an option to make that on or off, sometimes I like to poll my members on what they'd like to see me do with TMASFS and I don't want to vote myself, but without voting, I can't see what they think. |

You can see the poll results if you aren't logged in, if that helps

This would make the poll useless, if someone votes an alternative and that starts a chain reaction or if someone wants to use the results for say a reference before buying something he would not get objective results.
I think that It would be best for those who dont know what to choose to have a choice to forfit their vote in order to see the results.

actually I agree with him KK. I don't think you should be able to view the results before you vote.

make it an option for the poster, if radio button one is checked, you can see results, if 2 is marked... they cant until they vote

I think it would be useful if society owners could set how many options could be included in a poll. I know that ten sems a lot, but we've had a couple of polls where more space for more options would have been useful. Is this something that could be changed easily?

mouse~,
No that is not something that can be easily done. We can add more I guess, but I figured that 10 was a lot. It looks like that 10 choices equals to just under 1/5 of all poll topics.
How many would you suggest?

Hard to say - ordinarily I think ten would be more than enough. However, lately we've had polls about the Academy Awards and songs in certain genres in which ten options have been inadequate. If I had to set it up myself, I would probably give twice that. That's complete overkill, but on the other hand, I think it would cover any poll eventuality. But don't worry about this if you have more important stuff to work on!

is there a way where both parties can be happy?
I was thinking of giving this option to the person that posts the poll. That person can check a box to allow people to view results, and if it's checked then it would show a link or something that would show the results in a popup or something.

For the number of poll options, Why can't it just be a script... like
[start poll]
[question]blablabla[/q]
[option1]blabla[/1] [option2]blabla[/2] [option3]blabla[/3] [option4]blabla[/4] .... so on
[/end poll]

it's not that easy forta. The answers have to be stored in the db, so you have to have a limit on how many there can be.
