The Uncertain Areas - a roleplay society

The Uncertain Areas

TUA (also referred to as OSR) is a roleplay society that began about three years ago on EZBoard. I moved it to Chatarea after the ads on EZ got to be too much. Normally, I wouldn't bother posting something like this, but we're down to only 5 or 6 regular RPers (13 members - multiple screen names give us a total of 27 posters, though), and need a boost to get things going again.

So if anyone is interested in Shadowrun, D&D, L5R, White Wolf, or freeform, we play them all. Our freeform RPs run from combination settings (a popular, though abandoned, one was L5R + Shadowrun), to game-based RPs (we have a MegaMan X RP lying around unused), to high-tech (a mecha mercenary game was going on for a while), to generic fantasy. We also work on developing original settings and dice systems, and have recently begun work on a large character directory.

Finally, there are a few forums in the society for fiction, mostly fanfics and stories based on roleplay.

So, anyone interested?

Umm, I might be interested...

I am a little bit unclear on what your society is about. I am not sure whether you discuss RPG's or make and play them.

To reply, please either post here or email me (preferrably both), at

Thanx

At TUA, we do something of a combination, though more of the latter. Both Lazuli and I master games (although I'm /much/ newer at it) and create settings. We use D&D and ShadowRun, mostly, when it comes to dice-based. There are, of course, also freeform settings, such as the Realms and borrowing the setting from Kings of Chaos.
If there's anything else you want clarified, don't hesitate to ask.

Oh, ok then. I would love to join your little society. There is one problem, though. I have no idea on Shadowrun or any those other things.

I would love to join, but umm could u sortof teach me about programming and playing RPG's or send me a written e-mail tutorial (or something like that)?

Please consider my request.

Thank you

Ah! No, no, no. We don't program them. It's all based in chatrooms or IM programs such as AiM or occasionally IRC. We're a roleplaying society, just as Lazuli listed us. If you have AiM, then feel free to enter the chat ( ---words--- ) and ask any more questions you have.

Perhaps I just missed it. Is this a forum that goes with a chat room where role play is done or the chat room talks about the games? Please explain if you are able.

Thanks for your patience.

Both, kind of. TUA is fairly chaotic. We RP in an AIM chat, an IRC channel, and in messengers. But we also use play-by-post ont he boards. It's really up to whoever is in the RP to decide if they're actually going to play it out on the boards or just post what happened in chats.

As for the chats themselves, we have separate channels on IRC for IC and OOC. But the AIM chat can go absolutely anywhere. Sometimes it's RP, sometimes it's talking about RP, and most often, it's whatever happens to come up at the moment. Frequently, it's just a long string of insults traded back and forth for no reason.

That last bit causes some trouble. People who RP with us eventually either learn that almost nothing we say should be taken seriously, or quickly take offense and leave.
