| "New Post" posted on: 10/31/2004 3:37:55 PM I'm not sure if this is the right spot for it, but... I'm wondering about how long exactly a New Post is supposed to remain new. I've been testing out my community and my posts are ALWAYS marked as new, even if I've viewed them. It just seems strange for it to do that, when most forums remove the "New" marker once the member has viewed the post.
Even non-members who have checked the forum say that it says New for them constantly.
Is this a bug, or something I've done wrong, or is it just how the site works? |

As far as I know, the posts are considered "New" for 24 hours after they're posted. So after they've been there for a day, it will clear.

Ah, thanks. Why on earth is that, anyway? It seems odd that they'd display like that instead of changing to a regular post after it's been viewed by that member.
At a really active forum you'd waste a lot of time checking each and every thread that was updated that day. It's not a very useful feature... granted, you can check the last poster, date, and time at the end of the row but you can't memorize each one!

I think that's just how the system was initially designed, and it would take a lot of work to rewrite it or something like that.

This is something that will change with the new rewrite.
