Newby transistor radio building questions
replied on: 10/27/2003 9:05:12 PM

I am hoping to build a simple 2-3 transistor radio.

The schematic I was looking at called for 2N2222 transistors. How can I tell which lead is which? I need to find the Base, Collector, Emitter.

The schematic calls for several capacitors and uses "pF", "nF", and "uF". At the store the capacitors are stamped "pF" or just have a number on them. How do I buy the right capacitors?

Do I really need "inductors"? I get the impression I have to buy some ferrite rod and do some winding with magnet wire. How do I calculate and build an inductor with 220uHy, 5.6uHy, or 2.2uH? I'm having a tought time finding ferrite. Can I just use a cardboard tube with some windings?

Maybe I need to find a simpler radio to build. Anyone have a simple clear schematic that they would like to recommend?

Thanks!
