Chrysler 100th Year Celebration??
posted on: 8/15/2007 7:36:19 AM

Guys and Girls,

I haven't seen any chatter about this. My dealer, Fullerton Ford, has a thing going on tonight from 6-9 to introduce the lifetime powertrain warranty, recognize 100 years and enter a raffle for 15 different Mopar and Jeep vehicles. Since the invitation came from Chrysler Corporate, I figured it was a nationwide thing. Is it? If not, anyone from the club going to Fullerton on ROute 22 East in Bridgewater tonight?

What a disappointment! I could have at least been molested by a salesman, but no. So I filled outmy form for the giveaway cars, had a few potato chips, a COke and a slice of turkey wrap and wandered the car lot. Stopped in on my friends at the Ford dealership next door (same owner) and they raided the CHrysler guys as soon as I told them there was free food and drink (apparently the Dodge boys didn't tell the Ford boys anything about this).

The Ford guys would have at least contacted the local Mustang club to get about 20 Mustangs to display in front of the dealer as a promo. Oh well.

On a positive note, for some reason I seem to like the Nitro. WOuldn't buy one, but I wouldn't turn one down if given one.

Speaking of Chrysler's birthday, did anyone hear that they will no longer be making the PT Cruiser after 2009? A friend of mine who lives in Florida said it was in their paper today.

Same story was in the New York daily news. The story said there's talk of it since sales are down 24% or 25% this year. I think they should try the panel and see how that does.

I saw the Chevy HHR Panel at Malouf in North Brunswick! They put it up on one of those ramps the dealers are now using to get the car above the traffic!

In July of 2005, Doris and I went to the Chrysler Block Party at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH. Chrysler was holding "focus groups" with Cruiser owners where they would discuss things they were thinking about adding to the Cruiser as either standard equipment or options. Then we got to vote about whether we liked the idea or not. Someone else or me, don't remember now, didn't like the direction of the whole discussion and told the engineers/salesfolks that there were two basic cruiser owners--people who bought the car as a commuter vehicle and people who bought the car so they could customize it their own way. Regardless of which type of Cruiser owner you were, adding all the new stuff they were talking about might hurt their sales. They listened very politely, but I didn't leave with the feeling that their mind set had been changed. Around this area, you can't find a "leftover" 2007 as the 2008's are about to debut. Must be some other part of the country where sales are down.
