Ended up losing 10" of large intestine over a puncture and subsequent infection. Go to the doctor last Thursday, feeling bloated. Well, I am now home from the hospital after needed another two feet or so removed. I'm alive. Happy to be so. But damn, I missed corned beef! In 4-6 weeks, guess I'll have to make me some. I've registered for the Short Hills Show. If I can make it, I'll see you all there. Stop by and say hi to the tall guy with a total of 9 holes and one 4" scar across his belly next to the 05 Red convertible. I'll be glad to see you! Bob Lyons Life is too short to die over a foot or two of intestine! |

replied on: 3/24/2008 7:33:13 AM quote: No, I was talking about the Valrie Fund show in Short Hill in May. The one one wanted a group at? My wife and I may drop down to Shore Thing to check it out first before committing next year. The only show I've taken the Cruiser to was the Berlin Show that I believe was run by the club that just went under. Didn't like having put the car up on the lift so it was spotless top/bottom and have the so-called "Show Judges" (who the club announcer spent 5 minutes telling everyone over the loud speaker why these guys should be considered experts) spend a grand total of 13 seconds (I kid you not) looking at my car (there was only 37 cars there for God's sake. Even when I judge non-concours Mustang street driven classes, I spend at least 5 minutes per car). I must say the actual owners were pretty nice though. And that's what is most important after all. Robert Lyons Life is too short for pre-judged car shows. |

replied on: 3/24/2008 4:50:12 PM Sorry Bob, I have to learn to read these posts closer Looking forward to seeing you at Short Hills! Yes, that club went under, and the Jersey one only had that one show all year long. You will find that at any PT Show, the judging is not done like at a "real" car show. |

replied on: 3/25/2008 7:34:52 AM Ah, so what you're saying is that Cruiser show judging is more on themes and catching the eye. As long as everyone is judged on that, then I have no problem. What has irked me in the past at non-denominational car shows is the tendency to have the car club providing judges to give trophies to non-deserving cars from their own club. A brand-specific GM club from central NJ has a bad rep for doing that, and I have told every show that uses them as judges that I would not attend, and convince others not to attend as well. I dunno, when I've judged, either at local or national shows, I give every car (and every owner) their due. I've even hung around after shows, showing people what I look for, and what I deduct for. It makes me proud when I see people who ask for help winning at national shows 6 months down the line. Bob Lyons Life is too short not to be fair to everyone. |

replied on: 3/25/2008 8:04:22 AM Well, I couldn't have said it better rob, and i have been saying it for years about that club that went under. You'll find our events are judged better. The judges can't enter their own cars, and they try to be as fair as possible. And we went to top 20 whatever rather than classes.I'd love to see a point system like the big shows use. |

replied on: 3/26/2008 9:15:27 AM That's great to hear! I did not buy my Turbo Lite convertible (now performaqnce modified to the point where I'm waiting for the tranny to go BOOM) to show, I bought it to have a fun little weekend car and summertime commuter. I try to keep it clean and shiney, but it's not like my old concour 68 GT Mustang Fastback, or even my 93 SVT Cobra SOlo I car, which I still show as a modified inbetween wrecking it (and my wife is really on my back to quit racing at this point). So, I'm not looking for trophies at a Cruiser show, but I do like to see fairness in judging, because you don't want to turn off the person going to his first show. Bob Lyons Life is too short to turn people off the car hobby. |
