What does a tomato have to do with philosophy?
replied on: 9/26/2003 7:49:34 PM your friendly neighborhood anal-retentive gorean bible thumper Nowhere in the first 25 books are tomatoes mentioned. There is however a quote that refers to certain seeds being brought from earth. quote: Tomatoes *could* be on Gor! We can have the thick juicy slices of tomatoes we all love in sandwiches and on our bosk burgers with a side of sul fries. We can make tomato sauce and have pizza and sa-tarna pastas! YUM!!!! So what's the big deal? It's just a tomato. When we look at the books and specifically at the meals that goreans tended to eat - Typical meals on Gor, for one thing we don't find a fast food culture subsisting on burgers & fries, pizza and spaghetti. It's fairly simple and basic, like much that is gorean of the books. These goreans of the books are the goreans we join together online to portray, yes? If someone just cannot stand to type (typing mind you, just typing) that they are eating or preparing a typical gorean meal, how can any of us expect them to forgo other aspects of our current earth culture? If a tomato is too much to give up in mere typing, are we not asking too much to expect womens equality and the get-rich-quick, the-world-owes-me mentalities to be set aside? Maybe it isn't "just a tomato" after all. |
