Women of the Warrior Caste
replied on: 1/11/2004 11:38:47 AM

We might have been picturing young girls and ladies in pigtails hanging around the training grounds but it just does not appear to be so.

And what of Ko-ro-ba? This place that is less strict on the movements of women than most all other cities on Gor (save Tharna pre-revolution)?

Still we do not have evidence of women even observing the training and thus becoming familiar with the workings of weapon handling. In fact, we do have a glimpse that would tell us otherwise.

Here, Tarl has been in Ko-ro-ba going through rigorous training to be a Warrior - both physical weapons training and education of higher knowledge. He has been training among the Warriors for weeks.

quote:

I had little time for speculation, however, as I was trying to bear up under an arduous schedule which seemed designed to force me to become a Gorean in a matter of weeks or perhaps see me die in the attempt. But I enjoyed those weeks, as one is likely to when learning and developing oneself, though to what end I was still ignorant. I met many Goreans, other than Torm, in these weeks - free Goreans, mostly of the Caste
of Scribes and the Caste of Warriors. The scribes, of course, are the scholars and clerks of Gor, and there divisions and rankings within the group, from simple copiers to the savants of the city.

I had seen few women, but knew that they, when free, were promoted or demoted within the caste system according to the same standards and criteria as the men, although this varied, I was told, considerably from city to city.
- Tarnsman

He states that he had seen few women in those weeks.

But what about the concerned Daddy who wants to make sure his lil angel can fend for herself on this big harsh planet? Wouldn't he teach her a few things?

i do not think so. In the mindset of the Gorean man as i understand it, he would take pride in *his* responsibility and ability to keep her safe until she is companioned. That is his duty.

To teach her defense and weapons is to imply that he is not up to the task. Not able to do what all of Gorean society expects him to do. Few men would take that mindset.

Further, as companionships on Gor are by far a union arranged by the father, AND unions arranged within the same caste, HE would know that her future companion would take his place in protecting the young lady - simply because he knows well the codes the man was raised in.
