question -s-
replied on: 12/20/2007 2:24:17 PM Though this is a very old post I felt a need to comment. I to agree with your points of view in regards to the terms most commonly used in chats for slaves. I actually refer to my girl as my pet sleen, but that is a personal nickname for her that she has more than earned in her ability to sniff out people that have changed names to return. I had a discussion with her once and a lesson from it came about of her trying to find quotes to back the use of the terms slut and beast, what she found was the term slut was very very rarely used in the books and the term beast was actually used more often to describe the men that owned the slave girls. She found the more common term was animals, property and kajira. |

question -s-
replied on: 8/22/2003 1:11:58 AM Tal again, -smiles- thank you for your comments as they were quite interesting. It's good to know that others feel the same about the books and do not mind being anal. -grins- My friend once said that the worst thing she could have ever done is read the books. She then saw the incredible dichotomy of online behaviors and what is written in the books. It is frustrating when you love something so fiercely as it's written to see it altered horribly before you. I hadn't thought of the point you make that slaves would be commanded by their owners to call themselves such on a regular basis. I suppose the relish and glee with which i see these terms being used by the slaves themselves led me to believe it was mostly a desire of the -slaves- to call themselves such, rather than their owners. But you make an interesting point and definately one worth considering. I wonder if this is something akin to owners odd desires to pierce their slaves in places other than the ears or nose. Or other such things that are carried over from our bias simply by being human and from earth and not Gor. I wonder if it is even possible to have a place where Gor itself is simulated rather than our twisting and shaping Gor to fit us. With every small and tiny thing that is let go because "well it's not a big deal and it makes me happy". But I am rambling now. -g- I hope your migraine has receeded and you are well again. Thank you again for your time and thoughts, sincere well wishes, Kassa. |

question -s-
replied on: 8/20/2003 8:01:21 AM Thank you for the kind words. Can't tell you how much it means to know the work is really *used* ~laughing~ You are right, there isn't anything there on the site at the moment that would remotely relate to this topic. It probably falls under a larger section that is unfortunately early in the stages of progress on the topic of Psychology of Slavery. You got a laugh with the question of being too anal, a question asked in my mind so often! Glad to know there are others ~L~ My opinions are much the same as yours from my understanding of the books, and i wonder if one can be too anal about anything that changes the flavor and texture of Gor. To take something, in this case the reference to being an owned animal, a beast, a slut - designed to instill in a slave a deeper level of her place, and glamorize it -maybe even trivialize it- as might be done currently in popular culture does change the nature of things. i do recall moments of epiphany in the books in which a slave internally accepts and revels in the place men have put her in, at their feet, owned, an animal, a needful slut. But i am not sure that is the same as dancing around delightedly referring to herself as "His wee beastie" ~s~ HOWEVER...there are online, men who command their slaves to refer to themselves only as beasts, and in such circumstances a girl would be adhering to the *spirit of the books* in doing as he wishes, if not so much the letter of the books. i'm afraid i haven't given this the depth i would have wanted, but after putting off responding last night in favor of entertaining a migraine i wanted to at least get a response here before dashing off to work this morning. Fabulous post for discussion though! Please toss up thoughts and ponderings ANY time ~s~ |

question -s-
replied on: 8/19/2003 12:30:18 PM Tal Kaliana –smiles- I absolutely love your library and use it often as a reference. I was reading the section on slaves and didn’t see something that has been a pet peeve of mine for some time. -g- I was wondering if you could help me. A friend and I were discussing the mannerisms of online slaves in comparison to the books the other day and we were both in agreement (perhaps wrongly) that we felt those girls that willingly called themselves names other than the name allowed by their master, such as slut, whore, beast, bitch, f**ktoy, etc, were showing no self respect to either themselves for their Master’s property. My query is this, having read fourteen books and by no means all, thus you likely know more than I, I have found that Free use such terms as beast or slut or whore often in settings to remind the slave of her station, to humiliate her and make her admit her baser/sexual needs. I do not remember the slaves calling themselves by such names regularly and in place of their given names when not punished. Am I wrong in this line of thinking? By earthen definitions the term slut is derogatory and demeaning in the terms of a loose person that will sleep with anyone, it is not a definition of a wildly sexual woman with no inhibitions towards one man. Now this of course being a Gorean setting in the books, the definition may not apply but I found it to be apt when I read the books. The term slut was mostly used to show slaves that they needed and begged the touch of *any* man. Perhaps this is splitting hairs? Or being too anal about the books and if so, I apologize. -s- It was simply something that I have spoken with others about and thought perhaps with your excellent book research you might be able to shed some insights on the discussion or if you had any handy quotes to help. I am not asking this for you to scour the books and supply any and all quotes that pertain to this –laughs- I have the majority of the books and I wouldn’t ask you to spend your time doing something I can do -g-. I am simply interested in both your opinion and if I missed this section in your library. Thank you for your time and efforts! Well wishes, Kassa. |
